Local excitement

in #news5 years ago

Not much happens around our suburb, which is generally a good thing. Last night however it was very windy and the building under renovation next to us lost its roof canopy, meaning several tonnes of scaffolding got picked up and dropped from eight storeys up. As far as I know, no one was injured but the forest has seen better days.

I haven't seen or heard of this happening before in Finland as generally safety is pretty high on the list when it comes to these types of things. Workers are there now cutting the trees away so they can disassemble the scaffold safely.

The pictures aren't the best as access was very limited but the building is around 60 metres long and the entire roof cover is now at the base of the building. This is going to add a fair bit of cost to the project I'd say and push the schedules back. A building renovation of this type can take 8 months or more and the canopy is needed for sealing work on the roof and with winter here, is vital.

A few months ago a friend was going to buy an apartment in this building but decided not to because of the renovation costs.

Despite not much happening around here, there sure is a lot of gossip that goes on so something like this will keep the unofficial neighbourhood watch (a group of old people with nothing better to do) abuzz for awhile.

Perhaps I should get them onto Steem? They'd have a field day. :)

Don't drag them in to the crypto tension. ( I know it's a joke) They are better there enjoying the life.
I think sample life is better for health and mind. :-)

Well, some of them are angry drunks so best not introduce them to an immutable communication form :)

Ha ha.. that's a wise choice.

I can imagine the amount of tea that will be drunk whilst talking about this 'major' event.

Good news no-one was in the vicinity at the time.

This is Finland, it'll likely be a cheap derivative of vodka :D

Well you have to get through those 6 hour days somehow :)

Why not? :D I'm sure they'd have fun. Besides, we could set them to spy on you :P
Glad nobody got hurt.

They spy anyway, they think I am the reason why the neighbourhood is going to hell ;)

You mean you're not? :O

It gives them something to chatter about and old ladies need that to keep busy. One day we will be old too. LOL Thanks @tarazkp

I don't see myself getting to an old enough age to sit outside and gossip with the neighbours =)

Reminds of when a crane fell off a residential building in New York City. Amazing that it did not hurt anyone!

I have heard of some pretty large and freak accidents before but not of this kind here. I think it is just luck and sparse population that more people aren't hurt though.

That's scary! Glad no one was hurt. Bummer for the trees though. Wrong place at the wrong time.

I think you should get your neighborhood watch on Steemit. That could be really funny! I might not understand it if they don't write in English, but you could tell us about all the interesting things they say. :)

I guess it's a good thing your friend passed on the apartment, although I suppose the top floor has a great skylight, now...

Old people are inexhaustible natural resource. And a force of nature. What are you waiting for? Go and recruit them!
