Major Cigarette Company Phazing out Number One Product

When a company announces they are phazing out their number one product often the first thing that people think about is how bad sales must be. Next is probably a thought about what they are replacing it with and how that must be a proven better option for the company. After all, no company plans to go out of business - without money coming in, a company will eventually fail.

Now, keep in mind, this is Philip Morris, a cigarette manufacturer that owns several brands. Brands like Marlboro, L&M, Parliament, and Chesterfield. To say tobacco based products are their number one product is probably an understatement. To know they are leaving that lucrative business model though, that just sounds crazy on paper.

They are not leaving tobacco completely, they are moving to a new method of delivering their product to consumers. A more technologically advanced method commonly referred to as “smoke-less tobacco products”. Most people reading this will recognize the more commonly used name of “vaping”.

Now, keep in mind, smoke-less tobacco products will not be the only product that makes use of consumables - where the real money is made. According to Edge Little Rock, back in December of 2018 Philip Morris invested in a cannabis company called Chronos Group. Within half a decade this deal will give Philip Morris about 55% ownership of the company.

According to The Motley Fool website the legal cannabis market could see a valuation of nearly $40 billion by 2020. That is next year, as of this writing.
