Artificial intelligence is just clever marketing, and I’m not buying

I think it was at this moment that it finally dawned on me that the industry of artificial intelligence, to date, is almost entirely marketing. The term “AI” has become so loose as to become meaningless – from the customer’s perspective, right or wrong, it covers everything from hyper-intelligent science-fiction to their Amazon Echo speakers. Now, that’s great from a marketing perspective, but it’s also incredibly manipulative. It makes it easier for brands to label their products as “intelligent” without anyone ever questioning why that is or why we need to be paying twice as much.

UK police warn of bias in AI tools

Data analytics can recommend police actions like stop and search, which could exacerbate biases, the report found. Machine-learning tools that use existing records to populate their datasets may derive prejudices from the arresting officers, teaching them to suspect certain demographics more frequently than others.

Kaspersky says malicious cyber attacks affecting nearly four in ten smart buildings

"Imagine if credentials from a highly secured building are stolen by a generic piece of malware and then sold on the black market, or a sophisticated building's life support system is frozen because essential processes have been encrypted by yet another ransomware strain," Kruglov said. "The list of possible scenarios is endless."

Smominru Botnet Indiscriminately Hacked Over 90,000 Computers Just Last Month

Insecure Internet-connected devices have aided different types of cybercrime for years, most common being DDoS and spam campaigns. But cybercriminals have now shifted toward a profitable scheme where botnets do not just launch DDoS or spam—they mine cryptocurrencies as well.

Why scraping publicly available information online isn't a crime

Living in the information age, everyone must be able to build on the public data compiled by big companies such as LinkedIn, Craigslist and Facebook. To criminalize public website scraping castrates an open internet by curtailing access to information. This isn’t just an issue for internet startups and academic researchers but also the legal community.

Revealing While Concealing the “Invisible” Government’s Conspiracies

The revelations about the machinations of the so-called “deep state” often conceal deeper truths that go unmentioned. This is quite common, whether it is done intentionally or not.

Sometimes it is intentional and is directed by the intelligence agencies themselves or their accomplices in the media, who operate a vast propaganda network. In that case, it is because the secret rulers have been caught doing some evil deed, and, not being able to fully deny it, they admit to part of it while concealing deeper secrets. This is termed “a limited hangout.” It is described by ex-CIA Deputy Director Victor Marchetti, author of The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence, as follows:

Spy jargon for a favourite and frequently used gimmick of the clandestine professionals. When their veil of secrecy is shredded and they can no longer rely on a phony cover story to misinform the public, they resort to admitting—sometimes even volunteering—some of the truth while still managing to withhold the key and damaging facts in the case. The public, however, is usually so intrigued by the new information that it never thinks to pursue the matter further.

International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) is a Food Industry Lobby Group

The International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) is a corporate-funded non-profit organization based in Washington DC, with 17 affiliated chapters around the world. ILSI describes itself as a group that conducts “science for the public good” and “improves human health and well-being and safeguards the environment.” However, investigations by academics, journalists and public interest researchers show that ILSI is a lobby group that protects the interests of the food industry, not public health.

“Houthi Attack” on Saudi Oil Fields – a False Flag? The Financial Reaction Was Immediate

If it all sounds like a big fabricated confusion, it’s because it is a big fabricated confusion. Today, a week after the attack, most nobody remembers the Houthis claiming responsibility – it was Iran. Period. The media blitz won.

10 Revelations from the U.S. Right to Know Investigations

Internal Monsanto documents released in August provide a rare inside look at how pesticide and food companies try to discredit public interest groups and journalists who raise concerns about their products. The documents (posted here) show that Monsanto and its new owner, Bayer, were especially worried about U.S. Right to Know (USRTK), a non-profit research group that began investigating the food industry in 2015. According to Monsanto’s response plan, “USRTK’s plan will impact the entire industry,” and “has the potential to be extremely damaging.” Read about it in The Guardian.

Four years ago, we began filing public records requests to try to understand how powerful food and chemical industry interests impact the food we eat and feed our children. We quickly turned up documents that became a front-page New York Times story, and contributed to news coverage around the world about the covert tactics these companies use influence science, policy and public opinion about our food. Here are some of our top findings so far.

Google Wins EU Fight Against Worldwide 'Right to be Forgotten'

But it did stress that de-referencing on EU sites must include measures to "seriously discourage" a European internet user being able to get around the "right to be forgotten" by accessing unrestricted results from a search engine on a non-EU domain.

That demands "geo-blocking", which Google says it already uses effectively in Europe.

Savvy internet users, however, can get around that measure with a VPN that masks the user's location, or by going to some non-Google search engines.

Climate and the Money Trail

The Real Agenda is Economic

The links between the world’s largest financial groups, central banks and global corporations to the current push for a radical climate strategy to abandon the fossil fuel economy in favour of a vague, unexplained Green economy, it seems, is less about genuine concern to make our planet a clean and healthy environment to live. Rather it is an agenda, intimately tied to the UN Agenda 2030 for “sustainable” economy, and to developing literally trillions of dollars in new wealth for the global banks and financial giants who constitute the real powers that be.

That "ball" is not where we live..

Next post will probably get out sooner, or not, we'll never know the future..

Also a note of appreciation to @O.C.D. and @OCD Manual Curation
Although my view about bid-bots is a bit different I can understand the #newsteem attitude and sort of agree with it, at least it helps promoting better curation on everyone's part, and avoid bots exploitation, that I do approve!!

(I've used for ex. minnow booster, and am not against it, but there are some individuals not worth mentioning who are exploiting it.. Still with the curation lately, @SteemBasicIncome and @SP-Group regained a bit of trust in this amazing blockchain, also have to mention one project I do support and really want to see thriving, @Project #Hope, just need to gain more SP to raise delegations to O.C.D. and SP-Group a bit more, and as soon as I have 1000 more it will go to Project #Hope, maybe share some more Steem Basic Income units..)

And to end this one well, a bit more of incetive to knowledge, except the enema part, with that I don't really agree, we're not supposed to put things in our bum-bums, it's an evacuation 'site'!!
