Heart-broken by the scenes coming from New Zealand
I haven't cried in a long time but this morning after watching the video of the gunman in New Zealand I could not help myself and completely broke down. My body went into shock, what possibly can influence someone that they make a live-stream of that kind of event on social media. Our society is broken and our world needs some seriously reflection. I am lost for words to express how deeply concern about the atmosphere that currently circulates.
Our politicians needs to tone down the rhetoric, the manifesto of this gunman is very worrying. Even looking at some of the comments on the video is very troubling. Sadly even when sanity should prevail we have a senator in Australia leading a campaign saying that "immigration" and "immigrants" are the problem rather than the gunman. This attack is symbolic and well calculated, New Zealand is one of the last open and tolerant society that has welcome its Muslim community.
My biggest worry is that the world lacks leadership to deal with these issues and even when countries extend a shoulder, there are to many interest groups trying to shape a narrative. My condolences to the family and I sincerely hope that my Muslims brothers and sister express love now and no retaliation. I hope the people of New Zealand finds the strength to get through this very difficult period.
Also consider that live streaming gives incentive for some others to repeat what that gunman did. It also doesn't require just a gun. Just someone prepared to do sudden violence in an unsuspecting location and the fact they know they have an audience.
It is a multi-factor problem and while they mostly focus on "guns" and when it switches from guns to "knives" they focus on knives. When it switches from "knives" to vehicles will they focus on "vehicles". What about when it switches to baseball bats, Hammers, etc.
They keep missing the point. The only common factor in all of those things is they are tools. Guns give the attacker the best chance of not being caught unless they happen to be familiar with bombs or poison.
The problem is occurring inside of a human being's mind. They have decided to kill. Why? I don't think focusing on the tools will fix that.
Then we have the media and others giving them celebrity status. We know some of them have had an element of seeking glory/infamy. The media happily gives it to them.
The vast majority of them in the U.S. have been on pharmaceutical drugs for depression, or other symptoms. Drugs that have a warning in some cases that they can cause psychotic tendencies in a low percentage of people. Considering millions are taking the drugs it is not surprising to me that we are seeing an increase in these types of activities.
It is sad. It is maddening. It is tragic.
Yet until we focus on the root of the problem that is inside a person, in the drugs they are taking, in their home environment, in their schooling, and their potential chance at celebrity status I only see these things becoming more common. Taking specific tools out of their reach won't stop it. In fact it apparently won't even slow it down.

I don't think the live stream is what motivates people. There is a manifesto. The behavior seems to be ideologically motivated not fame motivated.
I did learn that some of what I said actually did apply in this case.
He had names of other shooters written on his rifle. So he was an admirer of past mass shooters. He did it to become a sensation. Sure he had a manifesto as well, but the fame/infamy was definitely a factor.
I'm not convinced he wanted to become personally famous after having read his manifesto. I think he wants his ideology to be accomplished above all else. If you read the manifesto you will see what he wants as the outcome of his actions.
I read the manifesto. It looks like it was intentionally designed to evoke specific reactions. It is clear the guy was intelligent.
Yet I also read what he wrote on his gun.
That says he was seeking fame. It kind of reminded me of the up and coming serial killers in the 1996 movie The Frighteners where the guy and his girl friend were talking about different serial killers and how many kills they had as like a scoreboard. They were trying to get high score. The movie was good.
The reality of this mass shooting is not.
This is my greatest fear, no one wins in these ideological war, just innocent blood flowing from country to country... It would be extremely difficult to contain if these spur on other fanatics, all it takes a one little screw in your head to go off and with the ease of getting 'tools' in some of these countries, it could strike in waves
This event was well planned and calculated, I believe it was group coordinted, from today's date to the country of choice, it can't just be coincidence. It is important to get to know his circle because these are the kind of events that shape geo-politics and the interest groups have enough here to work with...
If it is indeed coordinated, then they would strike another open society and country with somewhat neutral base but with some dissatisfaction
Racism in my opinion fits in the category of religion, yet when people are willing to kill or die for their beliefs then it becomes extremism. Racial extremism is something that some psychologists want to see classified as a mental illness. Perhaps all kinds of extremism can be classified as a mental illness if a person is willing to sacrifice lives in pursuit of their political, ideological, or religious objectives. Activism is done with respect for human rights.

In my opinion, yes it does appear coordinated but I don't have access to the evidence or data (which ought to be classified anyway) to know for sure. It seems coordinated because it's too well planned, not just the violence, but the manifesto is as well, and the use of social media.
It's as well planned as an Al Qaeda or ISIS attack would be and we know those typically are coordinated.
And the person who committed the act according to what I'm seeing in the news was not on any sort of watch list.
Not too long ago, there was a video recorded by a lady showing as her husband suffocated to death after she fed him poison due to minor home issue
