As the newly appointed Commodore Maxwell stared at the computer screen, his face clearly expressed his confusion at what he was observing with puzzled eyes...
- Jack, what the hell is Project NextColony?
Take your time, John, and read carefully.
John Maxwell opened the file and began to study the words and images gradually appearing on the large computer screen. Jack slowly and quietly rose from his seat and walked over to the table, powered down the holographic chess game and grabbed the two cups of tea. He quickly walked back to his desk and offered John his tea, while watching the information scroll across the monitor. The Commodore was speechless, but hungry to absorb all of this new never before seen intel. Jack, in the meantime, sipped his tea and studied John's face to get a sense of how the information was impacting his trusted friend.
- Is this real, Jack?!
It is indeed! I was just as shocked.
- How many people know about this?
Only the Gold Tier have access to this file.
- 5 people! Only 5 people in the entire Genesis Project know about this?!
I'm afraid so, this is why I needed to be sure that I could trust you to keep it top secret.
- Of course you can trust me, Jack, but this is not something that can be managed by 5 Officers, irregardless of how intelligent and wise we might believe ourselves be.
As the two men spoke, the computer sounded, and the now familiar words appeared across the screen...

- Jack, we found another planet!
All the more reason to insist that we expand the Gold Tier.
- What do you have in mind?
I'm going to ask the Chief to come on board as my Second Commodore.
- That's an excellent idea! Do you think he'll accept?
I'm sure he'll do it for me. If we had him on our team, this information would be much easier to manage. You know how intelligent the Chief is!
- I sure do, Jack, but will the Admiral give up his best scientist?
He won't have much choice, as this is the best strategic move for everyone. The Admiral doesn't attach himself to personal feelings. He'll see clearly that with our 6 planets here in the Gamma Quadrant, having the Chief in the Gold Tier is a wise decision.
- But the Chief doesn't have much experience in the area of war and security.
This is why I want to assign him to Genesis5. It's a Common Atmosphere Planet, which is what he is used to on Genesis1. And he will have Genesis6 and 7 in close proximity, which makes fleet protection easy. We'll remain here on Genesis3, and manage Genesis4 and 8, and any other planet we find.
- I like this, Jack. This could really work out well. Genesis1 is building an Explorer II which will be ready by tomorrow. We can have the Chief here in a couple of days!

The two men tapped their cups of tea together, as if wine, and smiled like a couple of mischievous children. John turned to the computer and continued to take in all of the new details about the Universe and Project NextColony!
