The first research rocket was shot from the Andøya Space Center on August 18, 1962. About a week it is the 56th anniversary of this event. More than a thousand research missiles have been launched from Andøya. Today, this rocket launch field, Andøya Space Center and the area is called, Oksebåsen is located about 5 km southwest of Andenes.
Exploration of space has been the task of the rocket launchers from Andøya Space Center. And in particular, research on the Aurora Borealis has been central to this work. In addition to missiles, it hosts and shoots for balloons that have scientific tasks.
In January 1995, while Boris Yeltsin was president of Russia, a research missile from the Andøya Space Center was launched. Russia thought this could be a US Trident rocket that was shot from a submarine.
Before it became clear that there was a Norwegian research missile from Norway, it was dramatic, and Russia was a moment in alarm mode.
The pictures are photographed on a rainy day and are therefore quite dark.
