Tribute to Jazz

I try to listen to every kind of music and not least the

Jazz.

Today I share a very free watercolor, the result of a series of plays by the great musicians and composers of Jazz music, such as Miles Davis, Louis Armastrong and Charlie Parker.

My pictorial work is an invention in which several musicians are painted, saxophonist, drummer, guitarist and a double bass player.
Only for Miles Davis I looked at some photographs, to document myself.

Through the dynamism of the composition I tried to give a rhythm to the scene.
In the foreground the great Miles coming forward with his trumpet,
balanced by the chromatic scan, with bright and contrasting colors, of the characters-musicians who feed the rhythmicity in the background.

The composition is the result of a lot of improvisation, to pay homage to the musical and cultural backgruond of Jazz, which bases most of its music on improvisational dialogues between several instruments or solo.

We know that Jazz music was born in the late 1800s in the United States.
The poor enslaved African American laborers, to survive the harshness and cruelty of the work of the fields and the whips and sticks of the slavers, improvised back-curved songs, intonandoli and changing them from time to time, according to whether the negriero was present or was farther away.
With these improvised chants they found comfort and hope in their existential condition.

They were the work songs, songs of the liberation of the soul that then freed African Americans from slavery, even through spirituals, and blues taking on a well-defined musical form, initially called Ragtime.

In my watercolor I intentionally approached the races, white and black musicians, a symbol of unity and brotherhood, a profound social and cultural revolution that Jazz has generated and radiated for over a century throughout the planet.

Oggi condivido un acquarello molto libero, frutto di una serie di ascolti dei grandi musicisti e compositori della musica Jazz, quali Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong e Charlie Parker.

Il mio lavoro pittorico è una invenzione in cui sono dipinti diversi musicisti, sassofonista, batterista, chitarrista e una donna al contrabbasso.
Solo per Miles Davis ho guardato qualche fotografia, per documentarmi.

Attraverso la dinamicità della composizione ho cercato di dare un ritmo alla scena.
In primo piano il grande Miles Davis che viene in avanti con la sua tromba,
bilanciato dalla scansione cromatica, con colori vivaci e contrastanti, dei personaggi-musicisti che alimentano la ritmicità in secondo piano.

La composizione è frutto di molta improvvisazione, per omaggiare il background musicale e culturale del Jazz, che basa buona parte della sua musica sui dialoghi improvvisativi tra più strumenti o in assolo.

Sappiamo che la musica Jazz nasce verso la fine del 1800 negli Stati Uniti.
I poveri braccianti afroamericani schiavizzati , per sopravvivere alla durezza e crudeltà del lavoro dei campi e alle fruste e ai bastoni dei negrieri, improvvisavano canti a schiena curva, intonandoli e modificandoli volta per volta, a secondo se fosse presente il negriero oppure fosse più lontano.
Con questi canti improvvisati trovavano conforto e speranza nella loro condizione esistenziale.

Erano i canti di lavoro, canti della liberazione dell'anima che poi affrancarono gli afroamericani dalla schiavitù, anche attraverso gli spirituals, ed i blues assumendo una forma musicale ben definita, inizialmente chiamata Ragtime.

Nel mio acquarello ho volutamente accostato le razze, musicisti bianchi e neri, simbolo di unione e di fratellanza, una rivoluzione sociale e culturale profonda che il Jazz ha generato e irradiato per oltre un secolo in tutto il pianeta.
