Corners of lights

Watercolor is a painting technique based on a fundamental principle: transparency.

A watercolorist knows this technical element, and always paints for overlapping colors.

You have to start from the colors with light shades and gradually spread over the darker tones.
As I have said many times about this technique, it, together with the fresco, is the most difficult of the pictorial arts.

I repeat, in the real watercolor there is no white color.
The light is white and the color of the paper is light.
If we use the white color, for example acrylic, to give light to the subjects, it is no longer a pure watercolor.

To give brightness to the subjects of a watercolor we painters must paint in reverse, in negative.
Leaving what we wish to highlight in light, covering the subjects by degrees and by overlapping colors we will have the final result.

In the techniques of oil painting and acrylic at the end of the work, the light colors and the lights on the subjects are painted with the brush, coloring the surfaces with white.
For watercolor instead, in the end the shades and dark tones are colored.

It paints negatively.

A watercolor painter must have a clear idea in his mind where to leave the light, the watercolorist is the creator of light!

If you brush too much with dark colors, you can't delete them anymore, you don't have the white that can cover them, you have to be decided in your creation.
The end result is a vibrant painting, with the white of the paper enhancing the dark colors.

A watercolor painting is changeable at any time of day, the sunlight changes and the brightness of the painted subjects also changes.
From a good watercolor we never have the same light.

Natural spectators, lights and transparencies.
We are the spectators of the show of the world.
We observe in the audience the first act of representation, mystical or religious.
A hug
Armando

Spettatori naturali, luci e trasparenze.
Armando

Excellent tips @armandosodano, I love watercolor but I'm not very good, if I work on physical paper the colors are strange to me, if I do it in digital it does not look so transparent so it looks like watercolor goes to another plane, I'll try to make Something with watercolors but thinking about the advice that you left in this publication.

Your painting has many beautiful colors and part of the hanging branches and the rest of bushes is very nice, we hope to see your entry for the contest. ;)
