Sea stories

I remember when you told me about your long sea voyages, the tone of your voice was firm and sweet, never hesitating and I listened to you without speaking.
You spoke to me calmly of the islands that slowly appeared on the horizon and formed like magic on the prow, up to become mountains, rocks, rocks and houses.

I remember when you told me about the lighthouse in each port, as if it were a loved one, a brother or even your son.
Describe to him the height, the shape, whether it had a spiral staircase or a direct ramp, if it were masonry or limestone, how many windows and especially how much light did.

You told me stories of sailors who played the game or cards, to pass the time, which at sea, on merchant ships, is always longer.
The inexorable slowness of navigation and the roughness of the saltiness on the skin, together they had a mysterious fascination that only men of the sea can appreciate, a magical union.
You told me with profound pride, from the stormy days where you could not see the horizon line and nobody could know if, and when you would have moored in a safe harbor.
Yes, because the big sea slows down the boat, stops it, she never advances towards the goal, in the fortune the goal becomes unreachable, and you're out on deck to hope to see something always disappointed.
Describe huge waves like buildings spraying splashes from every bulkhead, portholes or hatches soak your face and hands clinging to shrouds, metal railings or small security bollards.
But you are extraordinarily alive, you have the energy that transmits you the sea, you are absolutely present to yourself, you do not have second thoughts or regrets, you get wet and the water that washes your face keeps you awake and restores you to keep going.
And if all this happened at night, time did not count anymore, the hours become years or they were annihilated in the dark, and the sea water on them was icy as frozen needle pins.
This was not enough to get wet, you were always dry inside, the soul remained clean and mysteriously pure, there was no time for negative thoughts, only new energy and optimism to face the long navigation time.

You have sailed in all the seas, and you have taught me not to be afraid of storms, and to overcome the fear of bathing my face, feet and clothes.
You took me by the hand, teaching me to overcome fears, like that of the rough sea, or great storms, and now I'm with you to bathe in the sea of life, I dream you take me by the hand and take me to the waves, calmly , not worrying about clothes, so the sea does not get wet.
See you there, bye Dad.
A wet hug.
Armando.

Armando.
