Life changes - second episode.

A month had passed since my arrival on the island.
I was starting to breathe, fresh air, sea and hope.
In addition to the lungs I had to treat the stomach, continuous air pockets, vomiting efforts, and the heart, the problems recurred at night.

I tried every night to call her, but to no avail.

I had suspended antidepressants, I treated myself with beers and the sea, the psychologist was just a memory.
I still dreamed of falling down, towards the void, but more and more rarely.

La vita cambia secondo episodio

Era passato un mese dal mio arrivo sull'isola.
Iniziavo a respirare, aria buona, di mare e di speranza.
Oltre ai polmoni dovevo curare lo stomaco, vuoti d'aria continui , sforzi di vomito, e il cuore, la notte si ripresentavano i problemi.

Tentavo tutte le sere di telefonarle, ma inutilmente.

Avevo sospeso gli antidepressivi, mi curavo con le birre e il mare, la psicologa era solo un ricordo.
Ancora sognavo di precipitare giù, verso il vuoto, ma sempre più di rado.

La tempesta stava andando via, lentamente.

I kept telling myself that I was a lucky man, especially if I was in that magical place, I was alive.
I had begun to activate the sensory antennas, new energies arrived.
With the sunlight of the equator everything was easier.

Continuavo a ripetermi di essere un uomo fortunato, soprattutto se ero in quel posto magico, ero vivo.
Avevo cominciato ad attivare le antenne dei sensi, arrivavano nuove energie.
Con la luce del sole dell'equatore era tutto più facile.

The days I spent at the sea, on the white beaches, in the corralites of the small stone fences in volcanic lava, to shelter from the Calima, a warm wind that becomes strong around noon.
I brought fruit, coffee, beer and my bicycle with me.

Le giornate le passavo al mare, sulle spiagge bianche, dentro i corraliti dei piccoli recinti di pietre in lava vulcanica, per ripararsi dal Calima, un vento caldo che verso mezzogiorno diventa forte.
Portavo con me, frutta, caffè, birra e la mia bicicletta.

I made friends with Enrico who introduced me to other boys.
I rented a car so I could move around the island and go to the 722th art gallery and restaurant in Lajares, 10 kilometers from Corralejo.

Feci amicizia con Enrico che mi presentò ad altri ragazzi.
Noleggiai una macchina per potermi muovere sull'isola e per andare al 722° la galleria d'arte e ristorante a Lajares, a 10 chilometri da Corralejo

The package with my watercolors did not arrive, I checked the shipment and it remained at the departure date, 16 December 2014 - Milan, freight sorting.
Fortunately, the date of the exhibition was elastic, like the mentality on the island.

I also had the Italian coffee maker, I was rich.

Il pacco con i miei acquarelli non arrivava, controllavo la spedizione ed era rimasta alla data di partenza, 16 dicembre 2014 - Milano, smistamento merci.
Per fortuna che la data della mostra era elastica, come la mentalità sull'isola.

Avevo anche la caffettiera italiana, ero ricco.

With Enrico I started playing tennis again and it was the biggest benefit for me.
Practicing the sport I loved, regenerated my mind and body.
I signed up for two tournaments and I reached both of them in the final, losing but entering in perfect shape.
The club director suggested that I become an instructor to replace an Italian boy who had returned to Italy.
I accepted with joy, it seemed to me to have returned ten years earlier.

Con Enrico ricominciai a giocare a tennis e fu per me il beneficio più grande.
Praticare lo sport che adoravo, mi rigenerò la mente e il corpo.
Mi iscrissi a due tornei e arrivai in finale ad entrambi, perdendo ma entrando in perfetta forma.
Il direttore del club mi propose di fare l'istruttore per sostituire un ragazzo italiano che era tornato in Italia.
Accettai con gioia, mi sembrava essere tornato a dieci anni prima.

I no longer telephoned her, I only had contacts with my two adult children.
Even the beers had diminished but the coffees remained unchanged.

Ormai non le telefonavo più, avevo contatti solo ai miei due figli maggiorenni.
Anche le birre erano diminuite i caffè invece rimasero invariati.

A native friend introduced me to the bell and bellhop art and craft market, a shopping center where on Thursdays and Sundays we could exhibit to tourists.
I had so much fun, I was free.

Un amico indigeno mi introdusse nel mercatino di arte e artigianato del campanario, un centro commerciale dove il giovedì e la domenica potevamo esporre ai turisti.
Mi divertivo tantissimo, ero libero.

I got acquainted with a couple of Swiss tourists, who bought two of my watercolors and I invited them to the future, probable, uncertain opening in Lajares, at 722 °

Feci conoscenza con una coppia di turisti svizzeri, che acquistarono due miei acquarelli ed io li invitai alla futura, probabile, incerta inaugurazione a Lajares, al 722°

I was only waiting for the package with the paintings.
After almost two months I no longer had those damned air pockets and gagging.
The ocean had entered my soul, and will remain there forever.
A hug, waiting for the wave.

Aspettavo soltanto il pacco con i quadri.
Dopo quasi due mesi non avevo più quei dannati vuoti d'aria e conati di vomito.
L'oceano mi era entrato dentro l'anima, e vi rimarrà per sempre.
Un abbraccio, aspettando l'onda.
