Thymelicus lineola - European skipper
I photographed this butterfly on the outskirts of a small village in the Rivne region, Ukraine.
If I didn’t know the name of this butterfly, then the first thing that came to my mind is that this hairy butterfly looks like a little bear, and its wings, when folded, are very similar to the plumage of an arrow, or rocket .
But, the entomologists who gave the name to this species of butterflies thought differently.
A thick head became the basis of the name and a strip on the wings, as a lowercase symbol - a dash, fixed this name.
The common name for a butterfly is Skipper in English.
As you know, skippers control ships, and, dots and dashes, these are the most famous symbols of communication between ships in Morse code.
I made such an assumption, I'm not sure that it is true, but it seems to be true.
Photos taken with a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 camera
I edited a photo in the program PhotoDirector, which I also installed on my smartphone.
