The weather plant!

in #ntopaz5 years ago (edited)

It is true, this plant can predict the weather!

5 months ago I wrote this post about a miraculous plant, that we call "askeletoura". Among other things I wrote:

As a matter of fact the farmers used to observe it, in order to predict the weather! The excessive amount of flowers that I have seen, is supposed to signify a lot of rain in the winter. I cross my fingers it really does since the past 3 years the rain here was minimum and eastern Crete is getting into a critical stage of drought.

And indeed, the past few months the rainfall in Crete was the largest for decades and the past days we even experienced the unpleasant record of torrential rainfall and flooding!

Amazing, isn't it?

Thank you :)

It sounds pretty amazing to me! I wonder what the data is for correct predictions on this!

I am afraid that there are no real data any more. What can be found about it are just fragments of a long gone knowledge, some old sayings and some stories.

Wow!
Thanks a lot :)

What a beautiful photo!

Thank you @melinda010100, I am just borrowing nature's beauty :)

And you did it very well! The flower did predict correctly, but I'm sorry to hear about the flooding. That must be very unusual on Crete.

Yes, that was extremely unusual! Part of the climate change, I guess...

Weather is becoming more extreme everywhere.

I'm glad that you got some rain. I've never heard of plants predicting weather but I don't doubt that it would be true. Nature is more powerful that we think and this is the proof.

Your photo is top! Your photo is so crisp! And I'm surprised that you were able to take it with 1/320 as it sounds slow to me. But you had a tripod, I guess, didn't you?

Beautiful shot! Thank you for sharing and enjoy the rain at Crete :)

Yes, we were desperate for rain and fortunately this year was very good! When I first heard for the "forecasting abilities" of the plant, I thought it was an old man's babbling but then I heard the same story again and again so I decided to write it down although I wasn't completely convinced that it was true. But the winter proved that the plant was right, too bad I couldn't find how old people were reading all the signs!
You don't really need a tripod or a higher shutter speed for a photo like this. All it takes is a few dozens of attempts and some luck :)
Thank you for stopping by and for your nice comment, I am glad you liked the picture!
