Portrait of Bast, handcut collage 70/50cm.

Another handcut collage artwork taken from the series A Kingdom in Pieces and created almost 14 years ago with my stained glass technique. This time is a variation of Dragon Love in which i portrayed the goddess Bast as a Renaissance lady holding a little feline in her lap. Back then i was still using as material for my collages, prints of gradient colours but trying to include small objects like jewelry to bring a little real to the surreal. As background i used some pages from the anatomical sketches of Leonardo da Vinci but inverted and with a yellow hue.

A description for the series i wrote back then.
The theme of this series is inspired from religious paintings where the forms and symbols are replaced with those taken from ancient Egyptian theology. The reason of this act is not the revelation that the word of christian religion is based on ideas of older religions but the reminder that these ideas are deeply human and not divine at all.

Seeing again this artwork after all those years makes me feel a variety of different emotions. I find it very funny (she looks like Pink Panther's wife, lol) but also so strange and unreal, some things fit well but others look so odd.

Wow, you have really created wonderful things. You did it so long ago? We are sure that an Egyptian pharaoh would have loved to have that design in his room, it's something that definitely transports you to that time. You have perfectly combined all the pieces.

As always, George, it's a pleasure to see your art.

You make so happy with your kind words @cafeconleche:)

If you were so good 14 years ago, you must be a master in what you do now :)

It's a lovely artwork and she indeed looks like Pink Panther's wife :)

This technique is very creative and I like looking at your images. The background is great! It makes me think that she is very wise and knowledgeable.

Thank you for sharing and have a great day!

Well, i am not sure it works that way because i changed my style a lot of times through the years, but i learned things:)

I am very happy that you like her @delishtreats, i stopped doing this style long time ago but seeing how much is apprecieted after 15 years i think i should start doing sth again. Maybe do a video or take a lot of process photos so that people could understand how its is done:)

This is from the Amon Ra series that you published a little earlier. Cool, I was also reminded at first by this sister or beloved Pink Panther :D hehe.

I really appreciate your work, I understand how it is not easy. I look at your work and see if I see icons of ancient times with a note of modernity. It is truly worthy of respect. Thank you my friend for your work and your ideas!

i am really happy that you like it @sadheaven and thank you for your kind words:) She looks a lot like Pink Panther indeed!hahaha!
I love to mix images in an artwork the same way you mix sounds in yours. In a sense we are all composers:)

You are right my friend! Mixing different styles and parts of different eras, we discover something new and it is wonderful! Experimentation is always good! :)

I really appreciate her hands. The joints and nails make them. The colours are really wonderful too.

I remember when I was very young, I'd sit in my mother's little sewing room and cut out scraps from the scrap bag and piece together portraits of old paintings, using some of our early colonial portraits as a pattern. I'd try and copy them out but in bits of calico and cotton. I wish I still had one of those, I wonder if they are in a chest somewhere in an attic...now I'm wanting to find them again some day.

Funny what emotions and memories art trigger, eh @georgeboya ?

I do not think it is my best work with hands, but hands are very difficult, i am happy that you like them:)

Oh, it is so nice that my artwork triggered those memories, i hope you will find your creations. I lost a lot of things too from the past, but this is life:)
