The Commemorative Coin in conjunction with the 3rd Malaysia Plan (RMK-3) was launched on 13 December 1976. Prime Minister at that time, Datuk Hussein Onn awarded a RMK3 stamp set to Tun Hajjah Rahah and Datuk Najib at their residence in Kuala Lumpur .

The coins were first sold to all branches of Bank Negara Malaysia on 15 December 1976.

To your knowledge also, this coin is the world's first coin issued in the form of Tetradecagon. It is designed to pay tribute to the 13 states and federal territories that make up Malaysia.

The front of the coin displays the portrait of Tun Abdul Razak, Father of Malaysia Development which is surrounded by 13 state flags and Malaysian flag; Johor, Kedah, Pahang, Melaka, Sabah, Pulau Pinang, Selangor, Terengganu, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Kelantan, Sarawak, and Malaysia flag.

The back of the coin shows Jata Negara Malaysia as well as the value of the coin and the word "THIRD PLAN 1976-1980".

All of these coins have been minted by Franklin Mint, USA.

The late Tun Haji Abdul Razak bin Dato 'Haji Hussein died in London on 14 January 1976 at around 6.30pm when he was seeking acute leukemia treatment. He is well-known for the New Economic Policy aimed at overcoming the economic and social inequalities that have raised racial antagonism among the diverse communities of Malaysians in 1969. His remain was flown from London and put at the National Mosque before being buried at the Makam Pahlawan("Tomb of the Warriors") .

The information in blogs and books that said the coin was launched by the late Tun Haji Abdul Razak may be inaccurate because he died in January 1976 but this coin was only sold in December 1976.

According to the information we received from the Information Department, on 13 December 1976, Prime Minister Datuk Hussein Onn awarded a set of coins to Tun Hajjah Rahah (His late wife Tun Haji Abdul Razak) at his residence in Kuala Lumpur.
