The Montezuma Wildlife Refuge is at the north end of Cayuga Lake in the Montezuma Marshes. The refuge is over 10,000 acres and portions of it cover three counties; Wayne, Cayuga, and Seneca.
The refuge is mainly comprised of marshland and swampland with several pools and streams within it's borders. It is a part of the Atlantic Flyway and many types of migratory birds can be found there in the spring and fall. It is also home to many types of regional waterfowl.
There are several ways for visitors to enjoy watching the birds at the refuge. The Visitor Center has binoculars on the outside deck to view the south end pools and many of the bald eagle nests. There is a also a wildlife Drive where you can go around a portion of the refuge where you can see other animals who live in it's borders such as deer, fox, raccoon, and skunk just to name a few. Lastly there are paths that lead from the Visitors Center down to the edges of the marsh where you can climb the observation tower and get a broader scope of the refuge. The towers also have binoculars for long range viewing. It costs nothing to visit the refuge although they do solicit donations. There are picnic areas where you can bring a cold picnic (no grills) and they sponsor many events based on which season you visit. If you ever find yourself in the Finger Lakes Region of central New York it is worth the time to go and enjoy the wildlife in their natural habitat.

I hope you have enjoyed my blog tour of the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. Follow my blog to see many more of the natural wonders of New York in the future. Thanks for stopping by.
