in #obuasi6 years ago

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly spent a little over GHc100,000 on the construction of a 2-unit kindergarten school block at Asonkore in the then Obuasi Municipality but currently Obuasi East district. The project which was awarded to Sunarash Enterprise from 16th March 2015 to 16th June, 2015 was captured in the Assembly’s 2016 Annual Progress Report.

The project which was expected to cost the Assembly GHc114,966 on completion was financed from the District Development Fund. According to the 2015 Annual Progress Report, the OMA had spent GHc53,717.61 on the project as at the end of 2015, which represented 46.7% of the contract sum. Interestingly, the Assembly claimed the project was 90% completed within that period. In 2016, though the Assembly indicated no money was sent into the project, the total sum spent on the project rose to GHc101,664.99. No work was also done on the project per the report in the year under review.

Contractor

The construction company that was awarded the contract, Sunaresh Enterprise's license had expired as at the time they were awarded the contract. The license of the construction company expired on 3rd December 2014 and was renewed on 12th June, 2015 meaning they were awarded the contract when they were not supposed to be operating.

alt

The license was renewed four days prior to the completion of the project.

Sunaresh Enterprise had their name among Ministry of Roads and Highways’ list of contractors not in good standing from January to May of 2015, the period the contract was awarded and executed.
