The Shale Boom Is About To Go Bust

The shale boom provided a major windfall to the United States. The last decade we saw a massive jump in the amount of oil the United States producted. It allowed the United State to become a net exporter of oil.

According to many metrics, the party might be coming to an end.

The companies are having to drill longer horizontals wells to get oil out. Over 15,000 feet, to the surprise of many of these companies, creates a number of problems.

The problem with this is the capital outlays these companies made. These outlays mean debt which puts the companies under the gun as they drill more dry wells.
