Steemit, Steemmonsters, and Partiko are maxed out on account claims

in #onboarding5 years ago (edited)

Welcome to Saturday on Steem, where your feed is quiet and your VP can recharge nicely. It's a pity that there are likely new members waiting for an account to start out on Steem.

@paulag has just posted stating that Steemit Inc are again behind with account creations, and the issue is that they are very low on tokens to create these new accounts with.

If we enter a bull market and this is the current situation where the chief account issuer is maxed out of account tokens to create accounts from, I will consider this part of the most recent fork a total failure.

Below is a table showing the top 20 or so 'account claimers', and how many accounts they have created from these claims so far, with a percentage claims/creates in the end column.

Steem are the biggest claimers, and are also almost at capacity with 98% of these accounts taken. However, they could go an account claim token spree as they have plenty of RCs in the tank - maybe this isn't the reason for the delay in account creations via this account.

@steemhunt are going OK, along with @blocktrades, and @oracle-d. And that is about it as far as the top 20 claimers are concerned.

@upmyvote looks like it's doing OK, until you check and find 'bot1 - bot500' as the account names, sigh.

I know @ocd plan to feed into @steemonboarding and so at least they have something in the works there.

@steempress-io looks hugely untapped, I hope they can get that moving along.

@buildawhale and @appreciator.... any plans?

And then we skip a few rows down the list of creators to these guys:

AccountClaimedCreated%
steemmonsters2889268993.08%
partiko22642264100.00%

Seems clear to me that these accounts are also in dire need of account claim tokens to on-board users at the rate that they are wanting to get through the door, via these apps.

The problem is though that at present, it is not possible to transfer these tokens to other accounts. It could be that the owner of @buildawhale is a fan of @partiko or @steemmonsters and would like to provide them with 5000 account creation tokens, but the process to do that is not in place.

Not everyone is going to be an on-boarding gateway (like myself), and so we need an easy way to pass on our account claim tokens to the apps we want to support.

At this point, it does look like a market will form around these tokens - I had hoped the best on-boarding apps would be given them as a show of appreciation from the community.

Anyway, something needs to happen to get these tokens moved (for free or otherwise) to the right places. Is this a job only Steemit Inc can do?

Happy Saturday all

Cheers

Asher

I've got plans with @giftgiver once we reach a level of SP to be able to do it. How much do we need? Like 5k for 1 claim every 5 days?

Cool, I didn't know about @giftgiver, will check that out.

And yes, the numbers are moving constantly but I think it's 4500-5000 SP to be able to claim an account right now.

I can't imagine creating an online market for this would be that difficult?

There is also quite a lot of untapped potential...

They started powering down again...

It's only a little one.

just to pay expenses in my opinion

Whyyyyyyyy aren't they dropping upvotes on users to be encouraging like @blocktrades has always done. Do you know how jazzed I was as a newbie when blocktrades dropped a vote on me (I would still be jazzed, but you know what I mean)? If Stinc would drop some upvotes around, we might have more retention!!

I think there's a policy to not use it to vote, it's a 'decentralised' network after all! But i think using RCs to create accounts is another matter if there's a shortage.

I can see how it might be abused if they just kept UVing certain accounts, but if there was a policy like, they'll upvote each account once - I would think it would do more good.

Probably the reason why they stinc!

ba dum tiss

Wakka wakka wakka!

At least lots of accounts are joining. Then damn tokens though, being able to transfer would be good but really, onboarding has to be addressed properly I think

They are joining, but history tells us that accounts that join via steemit inc have a shocking retention rate - either they have no goals in mind for Steem, or it took too long for the account or whatever.

The new on-boarders like partiko and SM come with a direction for the account, especially as far as SM is concerned. They arrived to play the game.

'We' should never be short (especially in a bloody bear market) of tickets to get people on chain via our most popular apps. Sacrilege I say sir!

I say sacrilege too!!

If it happens in the bear what the funkus will happen in the bull!!!

Are we still talking onboarding? :0D

Yes we are but disguising this topic around hairy big-bollocked beasts!

Phew, still on track!! They should change the amount of rc's that account creation costs. It's non hardforky

Side note-Partiko just informed me after weeks of silence they are in a transitional period. I railed them for the lack of communication...

Posted using Partiko Android

hmm, i wonder what that means?

And I wonder if they are still claiming accounts - must go see. Cheers!

Good questions? It took a week of me talking sh@t to their spam bot to get this cryptic reply...

Cheers mate, hope you had a good birthday celebration with your mum..

Well they are still creating accounts which is nice to see, and so (without a good scroll through steemworld) I'm going to assume (at 15% RCs) that they are still claiming.

They need more though - a shame I cant just had some over.

Yes in all fairness they also wrote this..

"For what is worth, Partiko is still functioning and we are still paying for the cost. The transition is a very painful decision."

oh that does not sound good...I guess the fud side is they would leave steem

They are so heavily delegated I'm flabbergasted I'm the lone ranger that has been trying to push them to have some dialogue.

As a mobile only user that relies on partiko and assures everyone it sucks less than esteem I'm less than happy how they've been operating.

I posted our little back and forth but since I'm a nobody here it's gone unnoticed. But, if they leave the attrition will be felt for sure. It's hysterical to me that I'm the one leaking this and it's a 23 cent post?!? Not that I'm all about rewards it's just proof that content discovery is woefully inadequate here.

It should be noted 14 cents came from one account and 7 from msp promotion so literally nobody gives a shit since its coming from me. But, if a prominent account posted it, there'd be a shitload of traction.

Keeping the faith here is impossible!!!

Thanks for the update on that!

No problem, I find it pathetic I'm the one with this info as its huge steem news..

It took me trolling them for a week to get this response, which could be an exit strategy for all we know.

I hope not, that would be tragic. Partiko is awesome. I am wondering how they could be having problems with as popular as they are?

Glad to know that many people are joining but sad to know that account creation will be slow and might turn away some peopls

Posted using Partiko Android

Sad indeed.

You must be a mind reader @abh12345. Only yesterday the account creation tool on steemworld caught my eye and I thought "I wonder how much RC it takes to claim an account these days. Asher's not posted about that for a while".

Not that you mentioned how many RCs it takes but it was close. I'm assuming it's still way out of my league?

:)

I think it's around 4500-5000 active SP to give you enough RCs to make a claim. Soon perhaps!

Victims of their own success perhaps? However, I think both @partiko and @steemmonsters will do fine as they also found ways to generate revenue. They could use it to burn 3 Steem for more accounts which could help demand and price!

Posted using Partiko iOS

SM have Postpromoter as a back-up source of account tokens, but Partiko I'm not sure about - victims sounds harsh, and steps should be taken to help this successful onboarding app out.

A bullish signal perhaps yes :)

So then maybe it would be good if @vandeberg or the other devs were able to give us an idea of how hard or how long it would take to code this seemingly simple task.
Transfer account creation tokens between accounts.

I don't think it would be hard as there is a value titled something like 'pending_account_claims' attached to each account.

Yeah steemd has a label "pending claimed accounts" so I would hope the devs would see the reasoning for pushing this change. With the data you present it is looking like this will have to change soon or else no new users.

Posted using Partiko Android

WOW those are some pretty shocking figures. I agree, there really needs to be a way to transfer tokens!! I also wish we could slowly create a token ourselves - like, my account isn't big enough to create a token as it stands, but if I could dedicate 75% of my RCs to build up a token over a number of days and just use what's left for my posting and voting, I would do that (because who uses all their RCs? Not me).

Only claiming account tokens burns RCs like it does - posting, voting, etc is a drop in the ocean in comparison.

And yes, we need to pass them on!
