Filipino Children are Exposed to at least One Online Risk
A study conducted from Singapore-based think tank - Business Nightly, ANC, there are 73% of Filipino children are exposed to at least one online risk. Ages from 8-12 year old. This is from 2016 national DQ/data impact report. There are 61% have been victimized through cyber bullying in 2015. About 29% involved in online sexual behaviors. Activities such as visiting websites with sexual content, proactively downloaded/sent/received online sexual content, having sexual conversations online with strangers. 18% for video game addiction and 18% have chatted and met online strangers in real life. Per Philippine DepEd Government, records are above global averages. Numbers are disturbing so they set a program to address this concern 2-3 year now.
They also partnered with Facebook and Globe to ensure safer internet for Filipino children. They'll provide guidelines and educate parents on how to check if children are already at risk online. Through Digital Thumbprint Program it promotes responsible digital citizenship among teachers and students in public and private schools.
Public establishment such as Internet Cafe is also urged to help promote responsible use of internet.
Internet Cafes/shops nowadays are implementing rules such as school children are not allowed inside the cafe during school hours, no pornography websites, no unauthorized installation of software etc.
