Tomé una de sus canciones, por el contenido de su letra y su melodía melancólica. Penélope sí es un nombre ficticio para la protagonista de la historia: una mujer enamorada, que espera como los perritos abandonados o los que se perdieron de sus amos, en el último sitio en que los vieron. En este caso, la estación: sitio simbólico de llegadas y partidas, encuentros y despedidas. Penélope, sí hace referencia a esa amante que espera por su amado todo el tiempo preciso, confiando con fe ciega en que él va a volver.

Como en el otro tema que te menciono, ambos temas terminan haciendo una indicación de que esta espera las trastorna tanto que, aunque volviese ese amante, ya no le reconocerían porque están esperando a un fantasma, a un amante gallardo y joven, al que amaron, cuando el tiempo y la vida, nos van gastando, nos van envejeciendo, nos dan arrugas, nos vuelven viejos y cansados. Pero Penélope, la joven e ilusionada amante, no lo reconoce ya: "tú no eres quien yo espero".

¿Qué le pasa a Penélope? ¿No reconoce al amado? Yo creo que Serrat no quiere decir eso. Sí le reconoce, pero no es eso lo que ella está esperando después de tanto tiempo. Penélope ya no quiere a la persona, quiere a lo que representa: la juventud, las ilusiones, el futuro que ya no tiene. Es un poco como el proverbio:

Cuando se es joven, se desea a "ese amor".
Cuando se es maduro, se desea a "un amor".
Cuando se es viejo, se desea "al amor".

On this occasion I bring you a song by the Spanish singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat.
Serrat is a Spanish singer-songwriter, composer, actor, writer, troubadour, poet and musician. His work is influenced by other poets, such as Mario Benedetti, Antonio Machado, Miguel Hernandez, Rafael Alberti, Federico Garcia Lorca, Pablo Neruda, Joan Salvat-Papasseit and Leon Felipe among others; as well as from different genres, such as Catalan folklore, Spanish copla, tango, bolero and the popular songbook of Latin America, since he has covered songs by Violeta Parra and Víctor Jara.

I took one of his songs, with very nice lyrics and melancholy melody. Penelope is a fictional name for the protagonist of the story: a woman in love, waiting like the abandoned dogs or those who got lost from their masters, in the last place they saw them. In this case, the station: symbolic site of arrivals and departures, meetings and farewells. Penelope does refer to that lover who waits for her beloved all the time, trusting with blind faith that he will return.

But it is not the mythical Penelope to which Serrat sings. Serrat sings to him, as did Maná in his song "El muelle de San Blas" to those women who promise eternal love, eternal as long as life or sanity lasts, love of the one who rejects other opportunities that you are giving your life to find to another person who loves you and takes care of you. As in the other topic that I mention, both issues end up making an indication that this wait upsets them so much that, even if that lover returned, they would no longer recognize him because they are waiting for a ghost, a gallant and young lover, whom they loved , when time and life, we spend, we get older, we get wrinkles, we become old and tired. But Penelope, the young and deluded lover, does not recognize him anymore: "you are not who I expect".

What's wrong with Penelope? Do not recognize the beloved? I believe that Serrat does not mean that. She does recognize him, but that is not what she is waiting for after so long. Penelope no longer wants the person, she wants what she represents: the youth, the illusions, the future that she no longer has .. It's a bit like the proverb.
