STEEMIT OPEN MIC WEEK 83: "Flame", An original song about the contradictions of love + Photo shoot

Flame is a very old song mine but it's becoming new as I revisit it. It was included in my first demo "I steal the leaves" back in 2002. Curiously it was born as an acoustic guitar song during College and it later on a pop-rock experiment (a genre that I don't feel very comfortable with). The original version became popular online enough back in those days to still appear in some guitar tab websites (even if I don't play much guitar myself). It was a fancy find though.
Old... but new. It's a song about contradictions after all
I recently recorded Flame again from scratch with a brand new different vibe, sort of oriental sometimes and very folk. More fitting with my "ethereal" fantasy style, I haven't finished production, but it will feature flutes, harp, dulcimer among other instruments. I have recorded some scenes for small video too and I hope to finish it too and share soon.
All the pictures used are "behind the scenes" photos while filming the video for Flame last December. I just realized I just need to sit down and edit.
My open mic entry: Flame acoustic piano version
This is the second time I have the pleasure to participate in the open mic contest. My performance is very humble just me and my piano, minimal acoustic version but I hope you enjoy it. Still, recording this entry has encouraged me to maybe revisit the production I was doing . Meanwhile this is just me, one take today at my studio, just a voice and the keys... There are a few hurried notes here and there but I hope you don't mind :)
The song is full of contradictions... ice and fire... hot and cold...
We yearn for love, sometimes it hurts, sometimes it's raging fire, sometimes it makes us shiver...

Oh, Priscilla! You mentioned doing this as if it would be something just thrown up here as nothing spectacular and I came over already knowing that it would be a masterpiece instead. I love this song, remember it well...
Ohh, and I think the way you sit there with the lights shining over you is just magical. Brilliance. At the end even turns the color that is resembling the icy blue vision that one might possess if they were being literally chilled to the bone.

Aww thanks so much... I am self taught and when younger I struggled to find my voice. I used to think of me as composer and not the singer. I even looked for a vocalist, but the truth is I love singing and connect that something within me when I do. It does not seek perfection but connection. And it is beautiful when you feel you have conveyed a bit of that passion to others.
And yes, I made it in time! Lol. have been under the weather this week but did not want to delay it and honestly I love playing for self comfort so decided to go for it. I want to record one outdoors but sigh, some other time. Small challenges, one at a time.
I just woke up and saw it was curied, thanks for the encouragement 🍀 💚 I will still keep trying my best even if I may need to slow down a little on steemit. Wish I could post more often.

Thank you... I never had formal training hahaha so I play "my own way" with my fingers crouched hahaha XD same with harp... claw handed :) but it works for my own songs. Aww I feel sometimes intimidated playing just me alone, there was a time when I was wrapped by a band, and then I felt I could do something minimal and just concentrate in singing, but this is, even if humbler, it's also good training. Congratulations to you as well. Your singing and violin playing was beautiful. I have a weakness for cello and violin. I even felt tempted to buy an erhu (a chinese violin) and learn. The only bowed instrument I have is a jouhikko (viking violin) and in my hands sounds like a dying cat

Pechi introduced me to the viking violin, or did we talk in the chat, i dont think you can play that to not make it sound like a dying cat. It has that dying cat sound in its core. haha.

thanks so much for the good wishes... yay ... yes I made it...I have only participated twice and I've got lucky as both times I've made it... It makes me so grateful and intimidated about what to record next... but the truth is that the contest is full of talent so it is really encouraging you get the recognition. So much talent, some raw, some polished, some veterans, some new... It's really lovely to watch and engage with the little community around the contest, so I really can say the fun is participating, or even some weeks, just watching them. Thanks also for the Curie feature, heading there to express my gratitude. :)
