Let's talk about blockchain business models, before our own apps destroy our economy

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

Steem app developers generally resist trying different business models. Let's discuss.

Why not use ads? Or advertise a purchaseable product? How about partnering up with a crypto influencer, exchanging users both ways? Come on, just ask for a fee in order to use some of the features. Even 1 dollar for a month from a few different customers would likely ensure funds to keep a website online.

Truth be told, pretty much everyone (except @steemmonsters and https://dgamemarket.intinte.org) is asking for nothing but steem as the only payment method. Value is slowly being drained out of the economy since no actual fiat (dollars, euros, etc) or offchain utility is being built onto the steem blockchain.

Guys, you have to bring money from outside! Not just take it away. This goes for everyone here. Create content people from outside the chain would want to comment on, attracting registrations. Build tools of general use, because we're already stuffed with steemian-only projects.

Sort:

I've been saying this over and over again over Discord, one cannot milk the cow forever and hope that smart money will simply decide to pump the price and make everyone rich on their backs; if people think that way, they'll die waiting for the savior. Definitely not how smart money works.

The more projects use Steem as a source of income, the more we'll see a depreciation of the coin over time, it's just like printing money to give away. A business model can/should use Steem as a platform, it's a fantastic blockchain to be used as protocol, however a real business plan needs input to generate output, just like you said.

I'd say that there should be a system to burn more Steem in exchange for placement of adsense to generate income from there and not from Steem; just like extinguishing bidbots to power the true promotion method through burning Steem.

printing money to give away

Yep! Everyone is just dilluting the economy away. How about burning sbd so the posts show as ads? https://steemit.com/palnet/@felipejoys/ad-widget-updated

I don't see a point really in having Steem and SBD, to be honest I can't really express any opinion 'cause I don't know actually how SBD performs. If I were to start a blockchain like Steem I'd have only one token backed my some USd input, but to make that possible It would need to be huge in terms of user base an views, to justify paying dividends over the ads.

SBD is a very useful mechanism due to it's programmed scarcity. As long as we have useful products which only take SBD as a payment method, it helps bring value to both SBD and STEEM. Of course, 99.99% of people never realize this.

It means SBD is a prototype for the many tokens out there, difference being that the tokens are printed like crazy and without any plan whatsoever regarding to a susteinable and backed business plan.

SBD was never intended as a stable coin. I throughly disagree with you unless I missed your point entirely.

Hey @felipejoys, here is your BEER token. Enjoy it!

Why do you say SteemWorld has shut down? Still seems to be working?

Eh, it was offline until a little while ago. The developer stated his intentions to shut the website down. I guess he got donated enough money to keep it up for a while longer.

That would be a real shame. As you say they should charge a small fee. I would happily pay it.

I've just edited this post removing steemworld-related content.
