Visiting Vila Nova de Foz Côa is to immerse yourself in the largest open air Paleolithic rock art complex. Along 17 kilometers of the Côa Valley, you can see the heritage that is considered the largest Paleolithic open air museum - in the world - and which in 1998 was classified as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. In Freixo de Numão, about 10 kilometers from the city, you can see the ruins of the Old Castle and Castanheiro do Vento, which originated in the Copper Age / Bronze Age, as well as the Roman sites of Prazo, Rumansil and Museu Casa Grande, which are part of the archaeological itineraries of the locality.
