Art Nouveau: Virginia Sterrett - "Blondine and the tortoise"

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

Virginia began painting from an early age, born in Chicago, she was always a girl who preferred a pencil and a paper to the interaction with the other children, this determination to draw led her to great achievements as a woman in the illustrative art industry for books. At the age of 13, she had already won several awards and at 19 she was hired to illustrate the book The Comptesse by Ségur's Old French Fairy Tales. This intensity was turned off when diagnosed with tuberculosis, dying at 30 years old, painting until the end.

Blondine and the tortoise

This illustration is part of the book Blondine, the Pretty Doe and the Gallant Cat, cold colors abound in the composition, turning from dark blue to light in certain areas, complementing with green olives to focus the look on the hot spots that stand out as it is the beautiful young woman mounted on top of the turtle and the lovely red plants that are born from the gloom that resembles the ground, on which small ovals rest that confers the sensation of bright stars like some small flowers that appear in certain areas. The composition invades with a triangular visual tour the viewer's gaze, built through the elements that are in the lower area to sharpen in the large blue trunk that spirals up behind the girl, sharing her same conformation with those they are perpetuated by their side, among them large trunks that enclose the main characters. The texture would be the predominant element in this beautiful work, due to the delicacy with which she treated the fractal found in the bushes of the background that are complemented with the texture of the tortoise flaky skin, which turns his head back listening or talking to the beautiful young woman with long blond hair and peach-colored dress.
