Futurism: Carlo Carrà

in #palnet5 years ago

When he was twelve years old he escaped from home to devote himself to mural painting, he did some work in France and London, as an Italian by birth he decided to return to his country settling in the great metropolis of Milan. He began to study painting especially movements such as impressionism and pointillism, but, when rubbing shoulders with the new futuristic manifests it was inevitable for him to refrain from being part of them, so he left great contributions to futuristic art since 1910, this stage It ended the same year that World War I began, dedicating itself to other currents that arose.

The funeral of the Anarchist Galli (1910-1911)

In the funeral of the anarchist the heat of the moment is lived, the noise and the tumult of people are swirling to face the police that lashed out at them for not allowing them to perform the funeral for Angelo Galli killed in a manifestation by those entities that swore to maintain peace and order in the city. The earth colors dominate in the composition with reddish and orange tones, the movement is felt, in the masses that are struck between them configured based on curved lines that are lost in a fleeting stroke, the black flags that rise waving in the sky yellow, orange, blue with green and violet nuances.

”I saw before me the bier, covered with red carnations, wavering dangerously on the shoulders of the pallbearers. I saw the horses becoming restive, and clubs and lances clashing, so that it seemed to me that at any moment the corpse would fall to the ground and be trampled by the horses… ”(Carrà, La Mia Vita, 1943)

Woman on the Balcony (1912)

The figurative image disappears even more to only be represented through the geometry that gives volume to your body, in a composition divided into multiple angles reminds of the way to configure in the space of analytical cubists, making an effort to perceive and build the image, it has a chromatic range that does not have a greater role unlike its previously observed painting, in such a way that it gives all the attention to the forms that are distributed in the space.
