Yesterday, I was talking to my friend @ecoinstant.
He is one of the other accounts on this platform who talks about building better with steem basic income & investing income tokens.
I recommend following him.
'How'd it go?'
The conversation went very smooth.
We ended up talking to each other for over an hour & it flew on by.
And overall, we both left the convo feeling heard.
Why do I tell you this?
It's because that is the key to communication!
Leaving the other person feeling heard.
But what people do is that they lead with wanting to be heard.
Talking & yapping away.
And when the other person is contributing, they treat it like a burden.
And that burden is often met with cutting the other person off!
Very dangerous.
'Why dangerous?'
Because when you repeatedly cut someone off or make the convo about you, you disrupt the social energy.
'The social energy? What's that? I can't see it.'
Yea & you can't see the heat touching your skin. But you can feel it.
The social energy is the energy that is produced from a social interaction.
Either it is nourishing or toxic.
Nourishing energy leaves the other person feeling hyped & heard.
Toxic energy leaves the other person feeling belittled & drained.
You can belittle someone by accident.
Seen it many times.
Ex: When someone is telling you a story that means a lot to them & you give a disinterested nod & pull out your phone.
Their ego resents you when you do that.
And you produce a TOXIC social energy.
Always make sure the other person is heard.
You do that by:
adding to their points, asking for clarification & being present.
You don't do that by:
only awaiting to speak, darting eyes & asking irrelevant questions.
No need to complicate it.
Make the interaction less about you and more about them.
If you are talking to a socially intelligent person, then they will return the favour.
If you are not talking to a socially intelligent person, then don't take offense.
Many lack social IQ nowadays. Rather, feel privileged to have access to this insider info.
When you are speaking, make sure you do so confidently.
