The Battle to Be Free
Civil rights are a hot topic and everyone wants them. Political parties fight hot and hard to protect their interpretation of what civil rights should mean for a country and unfortunately the warring parties will never agree.
Power on the table determines whose civil rights are protected. The "minority" factions are lined up with petitions for more civil rights and when one party gains popular opinion and enacts laws the people who don't have what they feel are adequate civil rights begin to revolt against the majority and attempt to shift tides in their favor.
Making laws to protect those who cannot defend or protect or provide for themselves creates a real threat to a population of people who may not have adequate money to defend themselves.
Whose rights are more important? Is everyone truly fairly represented in our country? Whose job is it to stand up for fair and just treatment for themselves and their families?
Who pays for changes that those who cannot stand up for themselves? Those who can and do work and pay taxes.
There are rules in place to protect people from unfair treatment in the health care realm, work place and homes and even prisons.
When a society doesn't cry out against injustice and people are suffering under a certain group of laws the loud and the vocal push the people to hear their cause and make a change. America has its list of groups who have done just that and won a modicum of rights for themselves and their minorities. Many countries are still fighting within to gain their own rights. Our constitution was put in place as a model to follow and new laws have been created to secure their hard won rights.
Dictators will rise and define what they feel will profit themselves and a select class of people. Civil wars break out when enough people grow weary with unfair treatment and laws are written which ignore the rights of all of a country's people.
Too much blood is shed world over in a effort to maintain governments which suppresses those who should be protected.The few dictate for the masses.
When does balance come? When all men feel safe and have the freedom to speak out, worship as they see fit and have the ability to earn at the portion they are capable of without fear.
Freedom is never cheap and we will keep fighting against those who will attempt to enslave others. I would wish that all men and women were safe and walked freely for the fleeting time that they live but I don't make the rules. I can only pray that one day this would be the reality, but I fear that this is a long time in coming.
