Waduk Jeulikat dulunya tertutup tumbuhan liar. Lahan sekeliling waduk tersebut kemudian dibersihkan setelah dibeli oleh Wali Kota Lhokseumawe. Waduk ini dimanfaatkan untuk mengairi sawah penduduk di sekitar waduk.
untuk masuk kelokasi, pengunjung hanya dibebankan biaya parkir kendaraan. harga untuk roda empat Rp 10.000 sedangkan untuk roda dua Rp 5.000 setiap kendaraan.
Kini, Waduk Jeulikat berhasil menarik perhatian pengunjung Aceh. Keindahannya menjadi salah satu pesona yang menjadi buruan para fotografer.
