Why I Use Partiko

in #partiko5 years ago (edited)

A few months ago, people were raving about Steempeak and the features they were implementing that people had been asking for. The creators are approachable and ready to try and implement suggestions. I was excited to try it, but alas, it wasn't for me. It's targeted at desktop computers and I interact on the blockchain via a tablet, which is an Android mobile device. Very little of the site worked for me. The team were hoping to work on the mobile side, but it was a future project.

I first became aware of Partiko as a mobile app from seeing the “Posted using Partiko” footers on comments. To be honest, I thought they were annoying, so I didn't look into it. Then I started to see posts raving about Partiko. I still didn't look into it until I read a post talking about how popular both Steempeak and Partiko were becoming for their usability. Then I saw in the comments that the footer could be removed and plans for the future were to have an option to post without it. That was good enough for me!

Partiko Points

I'm not good at starting over with new things, so it took a bit of perseverance to get used to using Partiko. I probably wouldn't have persevered, but I discovered that interactions via the app earn Partiko points.

When you first sign into Partiko you get 3000 points. Every blog post earns 30 points, comments earn 10 points and upvotes 5 points. Each day you can tap the “check in” button and earn 10 points. I mostly forgot this existed and I've only just started trying to get into the habit of checking in daily!

Currently, points can only be redeemed for upvotes when you post, but when SMTs arrive I think they will be Partiko’s SMTs. Can you tell I don't really know how SMTs work? Regardless, I've decided not to just redeem them all, but to allow some to accrue for that future.

The Good

Besides the points and the fact that I can interact easily from a mobile device, there are some other features I rather enjoy.

When you tap the upvote icon a pop-up shows lots of information on your potential vote. It gives an idea of how much it's currently worth at the percentage you're looking to vote at. It displays your current vote power percentage. A recent addition even gives an idea how much curating you might earn from it. Be aware that this won't be very accurate as so much can happen between your upvote and the payout. The vote slider moves in increments of 5%, which is rather good for my OCD, because I don't like struggling to get those rounded numbers on the Steemit slider. A 49% upvote doesn't sit well with me, so I end up sliding back and forth until I can get the 50%, then the moment I take my finger off it shifts!

You don't need to go to a separate app or site for your notifications, they all come through on Partiko. Sorry to say this, but I'm finding them more reliable than Ginabot, which misses or is delayed on some notifications. Some of the notifications I don't have much user for (every single upvote for example) so I like how you can filter it by mention comment and transfer only.

You can favourite articles you like for later reference, instead of having to resteem and scrolling for ages try to find them further down the line. Just tap on the heart which appears on the top right when reading the article.

A new feature is the ability to message privately via the chats on the bottom bar. It's not something I have felt the need to use just yet, but I like that it's there. Unfortunately, you can only message those you follow if they're actually on Partiko.

They look after and reward the community and the community gets behind them. I often see a little partiko upvote on posts without redeeming points (point redemption has a much stronger vote from a different account). Recently Partiko had a delegation drive and the community responded immediately. They hit their target way sooner than expected, showing just how much the users believe in this dapp.

My Gripes

Pictures are often slow to load up on articles, so sometimes you've read the article, but can't see the picture it's referring to and have to go to Steemit to look.

Tables don't seem to format on there, so again, I'll have to head back to Steemit to make sense of them. Any photos formatted to put them side by side or pull them to the right won't show up this way on Partiko, they will just appear underneath each other. You also can't centre things, they'll just fall to the left. Because the formatting is limited on Partiko, I'll usually prepare my post on Steemit, then copy and paste the whole thing to post on Partiko. Then I know it will look how I want it to on the blogging interfaces and it doesn't seem to be any issue for the Partiko interface.

As I mentioned previously, they have plans to alter this, but currently every comment or article posted has a footnote which says it's posted via partiko. I don't mind it on posts or even on the long comments too much, but find it very distracting and annoying on short comments because I read it as if the comment is continuing. You can edit and delete it after you've posted, but that is a bit tedious.

You can't hide resteems and I rather like this option on Steemit.

The app will freeze up on me at least once a day.

I'm not overly worried about these things at the moment, because Partiko is still quite new and improving rapidly. They also take issues and suggestions people raise into consideration.

PS: As proof for how responsive Partiko is to feedback, see it's creator, cryto.talk's, conversations in the comments. I forgot to mention that your own posts will receive notifications for all comments on it, not just the ones replying to you directly. Great for nosy people!

Hmm looks promising. I've tried using e-steem but it either never posts comments or post a comment four times -.-.

But for desktop I'll just stick to OG Steem. Even though I have so many gripes with this platform that doesn't seem to change. I've used Steempeak and the likes, they're very flashy but nothing seems to compare. I wish Stemit would change something with the UI, though and not just continually update the software side of things.

I want a favourite button and an independent search feature, not the google shit we have now.

I haven't tried esteem, but there was mention that Partiko was getting more popular despite the upvotes esteem gives out. Maybe that's why. Too glitchy.

OG steem? I don't know of it.

I've just been trying out Steempeak again. It looks like I should be able to post on the now, but some of the buttons are still not working for me. There's talk that they will faze out Steemit, so I'd like to see another similar interface. I'd rather they didn't because I'm actually quite happy with it in many ways.

I used partiko for a couple weeks and liked it, but I've found I prefer Gina/steempeak. I like the little blurb with the post, and the posts on partiko seemed to run together. Partiko points were a definite coolness, and I kept the app for the encrypted messaging ability. Certainly no hard feelings about the app at all, it's just not my preference.

Do you have any issues with buttons not working on Steempeak when you use it on your mobile? The hide resteems icon isn't doing anything for me and the settings and activity buttons don't do anything either.

Posted using Partiko Android

I've not tried messing with that. Didn't know they had a hide resteems button. Lemme go see if they work for me.

I probably would have been on Steempeak if I could use it. Has it improved for mobile use, or do you use it on a computer?

I'm strictly mobile. Their interface is awesome for me.

That's fantastic news! I've been hearing Steemit will be fazed out, so I was hoping steempeak would become useable for mobiles.

Yeah, steemit really kinda sucks. It was always meant to be the basic, bare bones steem interface for new folks to get their feet wet. It wasn't meant to be the biggest, hottest app that was constantly being updated.

Haha it looks like you need to comment more to get more Points!

Posted using Partiko Android

Oh I got tons of points. They're probably responsible for a couple of steem in the short time that I used it.

Looks like you only have 30 Points?

Posted using Partiko Android

That's current. Cashed out for a 7 cent vote on my last post. It's a really cool feature and I liked the app, but I prefer the blurb with the post title and photo. Helps me get an decide whether to read a post. Without it, I didn't enjoy my feed as much.

Got it! You want to see the post summary on the feed page?

Posted using Partiko iOS

Yeah, that would be awesome :)

I take it by your awesome attentiveness that you're part of the partiko team?

Yes. I'm the creator of Partiko. You might want to comment using Partiko to get more points faster!

Thanks for the feedback! We are definitely working on improving the image loading speed and formatting issue!

Posted using Partiko Android

Not sure why it would freeze, because it never happened to me. Could you explain more how you experienced it? Thanks!

Posted using Partiko Android

Thank you for asking.
Usually I'll be scrolling through a post and it will just stop, freezing on that screen. It probably happens more often on posts with a lot of photo content and if I'm rushing through to find something in the comments. I'll sometimes get a notification that Partiko has stopped working. It usually reloads quite quickly, but back the the main feed, of course.

It's possible it's my tablet not coping well with the amount of data usage needed. The app had been flagged as being heavy on that.

I see! That's because the image is too big. We will prioritize image optimization to solve it!

Great, thanks for the feedback.

For sure~ Thank YOU~

I only use it for reading and commenting when I’m out or lazy in bed, am unlikely to ever post with it. The image display and formatting bugs are a bit annoying but I love how the rest of it works enough for that to be a minor inconvenience 😄

It’s also really useful for getting immediate notification of stuff happening as while SteemPeak is my desktop thing of choice (steeve is pretty good too) I don’t always notice the notifications. This way I can multi thing 😜

The freezing might be a glitch in an update as I haven’t had any freezes yet since I got my new phone (iOS) and I don’t remember getting any on the old one (Android). If that’s the case they’ve probably already fixed it 🤣

I'm going to try Steempeak again. Just been told it's working well on mobile devices now. There are so many good apps going, it's going to be hard to stick to just one, I think. I've only recently heard about Steeve, so I haven't had chance to look at it properly.

Posted using Partiko Android

Before Partiko and after esteem I used busy on mobile, it’s quite nice. Steeve looks like it has a mobile first design (drives me mad 😆) so that would probably work too.

Why would you stick to one? Currently I’m commenting and upvoting on posts on SteemPeak and replying to comments with Partiko 🤣 and poking at the Christmas presents I’m trying to make aaaahhhhhh I don’t work well with deadlines 😆

Steeve has got some pretty neat features; the recommendations are cool and I love how easy it is to find and star tags (still have to go to user pages to star them but I don’t mind). I was running into an issue where it wouldn’t load more feed after a while but that may have been fixed now. I’ve meanwhile stopped playing with it because this time of year is being its usual insanely busy self 😅
