Independence Day

It is one of the most important dates in the history of our beloved country, the Philippines. This is because it is a sign of the nation’s independence from the rule of Spanish on the 12th day of June, 1898. Filipinos celebrate it annually on June 12.

Yesterday, as I went out to take a walk, I passed by the Center Mall of Baguio City and I observed that there are flags hanged at each floor of the mall.

What do Filipinos usually do during the Independence day?

• There is a nationwide parade that is attended by Filipino people, government employees, officials and students.

• Many are spending their time in malls, and parks as a celebration.

• No government offices are open and absolutely no classes in all schools in the country.

• Other Filipinos overseas are also doing some activities as a celebration to our Independence day.

During this special day, our Philippine flags are hanged all around the country. You may see them anywhere specially in Government offices and schools and now, as you can see in my photos, malls are also included.

WHAT DOES THE COLOR OF OUR FLAG SYMBOLIZES?

1. The Color White with rectangular shape in the flag symbolizes brotherhood and equality.

1. The three stars on every corner of the white triangle represents the 3 main regions of the Philippines which is the Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
2. At the center of the triangle, there is a sun with 8 rays that represents the 8 provinces of our country that started the revolution towards Spain.
3. The red symbolizes valor and patriotism.
4. Finally,the blue symbolizes truth, peace, and justice.

While walking at the mall, I also observed some mini flags and toys with the shade of our flags color.

Let us celebrate this day of Independence as we remember those who fought for it. Be thankful and always remember the importance of this day to all of us Filipinos.
