Cebuana wins ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’

Tawag ng Tanghalan is an amateur singing competition in the noontime show “It’s Showtime.” It pits singers from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The latest season also included contenders from different parts of the world. This competition is a revival of the 1953 talent search of the same name.
The judges/hurado now were Mitoy Yonting, Ogie Alcasid, Jaya, Billy Crawford, Yeng Constantino, Karla Estrada, Nyoy Volante, Jed Madela, K Brosas, Karylle Padilla, Kyla, Eric Santos, Rico J. Puno, and the Punong Hurado Mr. Rey Valera.
According to ABS-CBN, Berdin joined “Star Circle Quest: Search for the Next Kiddie Superstars 4” when she was a child and reached the semi-finals round. Despite losing that contest, she started acting, appearing on several episodes of “Maalaala Mo Kaya.” She also auditioned for “The Voice Kids PH” and didn’t prosper. Berdin tried out for the first season of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” in 2016 but failed. Noven Belleza was the first winner of the revived contest. Belleza also had a Cebu connection. And Janine tried again this time the “Tawag Ng Tanghalan Season 2.”

In the end, it was Berdin who claimed the Grand Champion’s trophy as created by Toym Imao , P2 million cash prize, along with a house and lot package from Camella homes, a vacation package from 2Go, assorted musical instruments and gadgets from JB Music, a livelihood package from Siomai House, among others.
Berdin’s winning performance was a Bamboo medley: “Hallelujah” and “Noypi” and “Tatsulok.”
The 16-year old from Cebu garnered a national combined average score of 96.11% – leaving behind second placer Ato Arman from Bukidnon who only eked a meager 74.27%; and third placer Steven Paysu who scored a lowly 61.80%.
