Is fear really inside everyone? Some people are better at dealing with fear and others not so..

This post is a philosophical discussion on fear, my aim is to clarify my thinking, beliefs as well as share with others. I hear the word fear in conversation, I hear people talk about fears and I see individuals who are feeling fearful. I believe that all humans harbour some sort of fear, small or big.

The idea that every individual is harbouring fear of one thing or another is a big one to process. Fear is defined on google as an unpleasant emotion, caused by the threat of danger, pain or harm. Fear is real and personal; a person's mind has the power to make it minimal or major. It is easy to be controlled by fear. The mind is saying; "What if I fail and disappoint, look foolish?"

Like for example a good friend living on her own had a devious person or people playing games with her; they had the key to her house and was coming in and stealing. Stuff was disappearing over a period of time. Her fear affected her sleep and sense of security. A once confident woman was being worn down. When new door locks were installed her fear went, she felt safe and could sleep again. Psychological fear can also consume one, like not having the confidence to talk in front of a group or talk to a manager about issues etc. The solution must come from inside that person, it is not as easy as putting new locks on doors. Developing confidence and self-worth takes time and willingness. The ball is in their corner.

Personally and professionally I have come across many who have varying degrees of fears. Mostly I have witnessed individuals successfully coping with their fears as they crop up on a regular basis. A child who is scared of facing a bully, a parent who is worried that her child will not achieve or a person who is not achieving his/her goal. Then there is a more serious side with some people who become so overcome with fear that it prevents them from doing what they really want.

Support is out there in a couple of different forms like positive self-help and motivation books such as the one written by Susan Jeffers, PH.D.; Fell The Fear And Do It Anyway. It is a book that skilfully assists readers to identify their feelings with suggested tried and trusted techniques. The other form of support is medication and psychology/counselling for people whose feelings of fear manifest into anxiety. This treatment is necessary when fear has developed into clinical anxiety and phobias.

Then of course there are loads of people who feel the fear and just get on with it. They use it to their advantage. Physical, emotional, mental and psychological wellness is a must, don't let fear take it away. Stay mindful and in control when stuff happens.

Cheers
