Thoughts about totalitarians and their oppression through the use of words

in #philosophy6 years ago (edited)

In addition to oppressing the people by restricting economic freedoms, totalitarians also oppress through language. On the one hand, by the kind of message they share on the media and through their spokespeople, and on the other hand, by suppressing and restricting what people can or cannot say. From the media and through their people there can be daily aggressions against the people who freely want to comment on the disastrous political and economic management of the country.

When reviewing the press or digital media we find that the answer from the government given to people’s opinions or accusations against the corrupts, is to refute the accusation or try to make a fool of the person who was brave enough to do it in the first place, but the decision to investigate the accusations never happen.

Totalitarians also oppress people by motivating self censorship and by interpreting the messages of opposition leaders in a biased way, with the goal of portraying them as something they are not, and justifying any “legal” measure they wish to impose, like incarcerating a particular individual, they keep the people oppressed by constantly producing deceptive messages, which unfortunately a part of the population always believe.

For example, Venezuela is the country with the most active wars. The famous economic war, the war against the American “empire”, the media war and a few others absurd wars, all of them are just to keep the people confused and focusing their attention on an enemy that doesn’t exist, without realizing their worst enemy is posing as their protector.

Given these circumstances, we have to fight the ideas, empower ourselves and demand a responsible government and be aware of the different ways in which the current one wants to limit our freedoms for the benefit of some individuals completely consumed by a destructive ideology.

Thy are heartless type of humans and they would mind taking lives at slightest disagreement. This set of people still abound in my continent unfortunately.

Thanks for this great piece on totalitarianism

@sciencetech

Yes, unfortunately they still exist.

The totalitarian rulers try to use a militaristic slang; everything is a war, a battle, a struggle, so that their followers see all those who think different as enemies, in such a way that they are unable to listen to their words, regardless of logic or reason, because after all, they are on different sides.

It is quite effective because after people identify with that group, it is very difficult to leave without feeling treacherous. It's a mental trap.

Exactly, and naive people end up seeing the government as their savior when the truth is they are the opposite of a savior.
