Is Sincerity Important? | Words have POWER!

in #philosophy5 years ago (edited)

In today's video I want to discuss the topic of being genuine with our words, what I would describe as speaking honestly. In Canada it is common to say "sorry", or "how are you" when we don't really mean it, and its got me thinking...

When we speak words, what is our aim? To convey meaning? Or is it just to hear ourselves make sounds? Hopefully the former, but of course no man is perfect and I know I sometimes catch myself speaking for speaking sake.

Today's video is about me struggling with what it means to "say what I mean, and mean what I say", and this video is as much for you as for me, like a journal entry of sorts, in which I work through what it means to speak truth, and offer others my most real, genuine and sincere self.

That is no easy task, honesty and sincerity are not my second nature. Yet I want to be better than I believe I currently am, and hopefully this dialogue can help me, and you, work through the meaning of truth, and the importance of sincerity and honesty.

Is it important to say what you mean?

If nothing else hopefully this video is enjoyable. Thank you so much for your time and attention, have an awesome day, Merry Christmas and God bless.

@infidel1258, In my opinion, we should say what we really want to say and what we feel, but we have to use the right channel too because, sometimes people may be saying the truth but Rudeness can ruin everything. So, we have to be Honest and genuine while expressing ourselves but have to use the kind way of expression too.

Yes. Fair point.

Say what you mean, mean what you say, but dont say it mean.

Yes. Have a great time ahead. 🙂

Sometimes when people ask how I'm doing I want to tell them everything that is going on in my life and then summarize with a "so.. pretty good." or "so.. not that great." Sometimes I do start into it but then stop and say "Good. How about you?" As for sorry I do say it a lot but feel I partially mean it. I do things and after processing I would actual feel sorry but not sure if I would change what I did in most cases. I guess I just don't understand the true meaning of the word. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Great comment!

I like what you said about just pouring it all out when someone asks "how are you".

I also like to actively think about what those words mean when I ask someone that question. What I do is, mentally prepare myself in case they really do just let it all out.

The "sorry" topic is a bit different when I think about it for a second time... the person who says sorry, is really being polite, even if they dont mean it, like saying "sir" or "maam". You dont have to DEEPLY mean it, to say sorry.

But I do stand by what I suggested around the 'how are you doing' topic, if you don't care, why say it?

Really aprpeciate the comment. Thanks, have a great day!
