DOES TRUTH EXIST WITHOUT EVIDENCE?

Speaking the truth always is considered a virtue and one which everybody must embrace. Children are often taught to speak the truth and avoid telling lies.

Truth is most often used to mean being in accord with fact or reality, or fidelity to an original or standard. Truth is usually held to be opposite to falsehood, which, correspondingly, can also take on a logical, factual, or ethical meaning. Source

Truth is not something that often reveals itself without much stress. Often time, the person telling the truth knows but the receiver of the message might not know and same goes for lies. A liar knows he's lying but the receiver has this feeling that he/she is probably being told lies. Whichever way you look at the two scenarios, the speaker knows he/she is saying the truth or telling lies.

Now how do i know that i am being told the truth without evidence? If my girlfriend tells me she's saying the truth, how can i know i am being told the truth without asking for evidence from her to back her claim?

If someone told me he/she was robbed and beaten by the robber, is the wound on his/her face enough to prove that the incident actually happened? Do not forget that people have arranged friends to beat them up just to show proof that something actually happened? If such is the case, is that proof a justification to believe that i am being told the truth?

If truth is linked to evidence? Can there be truth without evidence? Does evidence proves it is true or it actually happened?

In a court of law, the judge relies so much on the evidence before him/her to convict or not convict and accused. People have been convicted because of proofs and some have been set free because of proofs. Now, is this proof itself true? We are aware of the fact that people have been convicted wrongly but the verdict was made based on the evidence before the judge. If this is granted as truth on it own, then how helpful is this evidence in the process of trying to discover the truth?

We can argue therefore that because there is an evidence to back a claim, it doesn't mean it is truth and because there is no evidence to support a claim, it doesn't mean it is false.

Truth is beyond evidence, the evidence can be doctored. It is important to ask the truthfulness of the evidence itself before using it as the yardstick to conclude on a truth matter.

Truth, in inclusion, can exist without evidence. Evidence doesn't make a situation true, it only gives support to human doubt.

Thanks for your time.

This is a beautiful piece and all your points made sense. The fact the that there is no evidence does not mean that something true has become false. Even cooked up evidences doesnt mean a false thing is true. You really made me wonder what then is truth. I think truth is indubitable
