The Middle Way is NOT a Compromise

in #philosophy5 years ago

Many times in life there seem to be two options at the opposite sides. It could be a moral, philosophic, technology/design or even a political one. It could be pain & pleasure or reward & punishment or beautiful & ugly or even just good & evil. What finally got me into writing this article was making this post on @dlike

Perversion of The Middle Way

Compromise is the bread and butter of those who lack standards. It's also a very easy exit. You can point your finger at both parties and say they are both wrong. Take a look at this:

It's fine for just entertainment and the video does have a point. But what if you lived your life like this? What if the primary virtue of your life was opposing something worse? Do you really want to lie like that? Not making things worse won't make you good. Even a murder is better than a mass murderer. What we really need is improvement and pointing fingers doesn't make anything better. But this is the best case scenario.

It said that the art is subjective and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some group would say that beauty is just fitting into a certain structure and looking in a certain way. The second kind brings us boring paintings without much of a creativity which an AI would be able to pull off in some years. The first kinds make the following painting be sold for $192 million USD (inflation adjusted for 2018)

An Alternative

The art isn't exactly classical. It has been stylized and it has been made using software unlike the paintings that are normally shown in museums. The biggest surprise for me was the fact that the son is actually 100% in English. I listened i for months without even realizing this. That's art. that's creative and unique. But it's not a mashup of some abstract shapes, musical notes and something classical. It is what it is beings its own thing.

Keynesian Make Compromises

In many ways one can call Keynesian economics as something in between Marxist hellhole and through free markets. The modern madman economy full of distortion won't be possible under Austrian free markets and they won't be possible under communism. The madness around you is caused by a compromise.

The Three Kinds of Compromise

A compromise can happen in three different ways and I don't see any reason for any kind of compromise. The first compromise is between water/ambrosia and poison. The result is a long suffering death instead of a swift one. One may even enjoy the poison when it comes loaded in ambrosia. Thus this is the worst possible outcome and this is exactly what many post-modernists are going for. Current political and economical climate is basically fueled by this kind of compromise form one side.

The other side brings the compromise between two poisons, one less worse than the other. Loosing a limb is better than loosing your life and loosing a finger is better than loosing a limb. But you are loosing. If a middle way is a path to loss and suffering, it shouldn't be a one you should take.

The third compromise is between two good options. Imagine you had Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino got together to make a movie or just Justice League movie ending up being a total mess after two of he most talented directors in Hollywood. When you try to serve two different niches/groups, you end up serving neither. Trying to have your cake and eat it too will can easily leave you with vomit.

True Middle Way is Transcendence - It's Neither Side of The Coin

The Middle Way is the path to freedom. To solve a problem that seem inescapable, you need to have a higher level of thinking than the time you faced your problem. If you are just running from edge to edge in a spectrum, you have a problem. Mere wandering is not getting you anywhere.

Libertarianism is neither of the left nor of the right. It is unique. It is sui generis. It is apart from left and right. The left right political spectrum simply has no room for libertarianism. Think of an equilateral triangle, with libertarianism at one corner, the left at a second corner and the right at the third corner. We are equally distant from both of those misbegotten political economic philosophies. No, better yet, think in terms of an isosceles triangle, with us at the top and the two of them at the bottom, indicating they have more in common with each other than with us.

Some problems need a different kind of thinking. You need to go to the roots because the duality you see could very well be a human creation that has nothing to do with reality. Sometimes trying to connect some abstract idea or even something practical with reality can be the equivalent of connecting two pieces of a puzzle that doesn't fit. Sometimes the spectrum you see is a delusional construct.

Think about the left and right politics. Anyone can easily show disasters from each side whether it's a Sweden like welfare suicide or a tyrannical rampage full of militarism can call both sides to be wrong. But if you use a different perspective, they could be pretty similar and choosing to be center/middle would only mean low intensity poison.

I mean just look it in terms of Individual Freedom vs State Power. Suddenly the left and right would be just like white chocolate and dark chocolate

The Middle Way is the freedom from this dichotomy. It is not just the path for material success. It's more than just scientific success such as Quantum Information Theory. It is the path Buddha showed to be the one that lead to Nirvana - the ultimate liberation. The true middle way is the right (pun not intended) way in both physical and spiritual realm. Don't imagine it to be some sort of perverted compromise where everyone and everything is "kind of right but not really" where everything is negotiable with everyone having a valid point even when that point is "Death to all infidels".

Be Wise - Be Liberated

That lovely boom sound going off in between the ears...such a great reward one gets reading to the end of this one.

Great piece and an even greater point.
