Lesser Known Beach On Jeju Island, Korea

in #photo6 years ago (edited)

I live in Jeju. It's summertime and tourist season. We get messages from the government everyday on our phones about how hot it is. Climate Change is destroying the planet. Well, might as well hit the beach when we can. But none of the well known ones, packed with people. We went somewhere else this time.

This beach, though smaller then the more popular ones, was near completely deserted. Only locals go here.

Jeju is known for its black volcanic rocks. This beach had plenty to show. It looks beautiful, but its quite a bitch to walk on, especially if the sun is super bright.

Of course, my dogs loved it as well. They're both in love with the sand and when they get really excited, they'll end up dancing in it.

He looked quite serious after a long day of swimming and playing catch.

We met an old lady digging for crabs. She said they were quite delicious and suggested eating them raw with soy sauce. Raw seafood is a delicacy on the island.

On the way back we drove beneath the enormous wind turbines that dot the coast. Jeju needs more of them, as it still suffers from horrific pollution, often from China or the Korean mainland.

I'm happy to be on Jeju and enjoy its beauty, before the landowning class and developers transform it into a plastic Disneyland.
