Nightshade

Nightshade is a medicinal plant that has been used in folk medicine for hundreds of years (currently rarely used because of its toxic properties). The whole plant contains toxic glycoalkaloids, so its use can cause vomiting, confusion and convulsions, and in extreme cases even more serious consequences. Poisoning occurs rather rarely, because although the fruit looks tempting, its bitter taste is definitely discouraging. Medicinal raw materials are the tips of the shoots (obtained during the flowering period) and the fully ripened fruits. The raw material has an antispasmodic, diuretic, choleretic, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antiparasitic and laxative effect. A decoction of the herb was used for diseases of the liver, diarrhea and migraine.
