Abandoned Castle

in #photofeed6 years ago

Cullohill castle was constructed c. 1425, stands 90 feet high, and was the stronghold of the MacGillapatricks of Upper Ossory. It was subsequently destroyed by Cromwell's forces in the 17th century who bombarded it with cannon fire leaving it ruined and uninhabitable to be finally abandoned in 1657. Ireland.

Love to know what you think of this edit?

Ancient places hold so much mystique, this view makes
it look much more mighty than what is left of its remains.
Curious if the foreground is as old? Just tried to look at
the larger photo of this castle but it wasn't found.
Yeow on the outstanding photography on your dotcom!!
Looking at the nature & landscape photos, love the caribou
and those moose from above with their shadows!!

The lone wolf, Great White North! and The Smokey
Jasper Sunset!
When was the Jasper one taken? Just wondering cause
a few years ago we came through the area, might of
crossed paths! :-)

Love your photography! ❤ Now I must wipe the drool
off my screen! lol Do you have any photos of Mt Shasta
in northern California?

Have a great day!

I think the foreground was concreted at some time. This is a larger version of it https://www.robertdowniephotography.com/Travel/i-6jZsckL

Thanks for all the kind words. I have not been to Mt Shasta in California! Hopefully one day. The smokey Jasper ones were taken last summer. If you click on the tiny little (i) on bottom right of the bar that comes up when you hover the photos on my website you can see the dates taken.

Beautiful, I love places like this!

It is fascinating to think about what happened here.

Yeah I love historical sites!

Amazing work. Beautifully taken. Learned it. Thanks in advance @minnowhale

Could you go inside? I’d love to see it in color!

Yes you can climb though it although its not particularly safe. Looks similar in colour as its bleak sky with gray castle hence the B&W

I love old castles. When I lived in Spain, I would often go on day trips to small castle-topped towns and look around, take photos. They're fascinating, from a historical standpoint, and the forms are very photogenic.

That's a nice photo of what's left of that castle. It appears that time has had the upper hand in that battle.

Time has indeed had a hard time!

What if some people secretly still live in there :)

lol for sure ;-)

And they conduct some secret experiment's....

Really interesting mood to this photo. Always enjoy seeing Irish castles as this is where my ancestors are from.

Thanks. I also have some Irish ancestry.

It looks surreal, i'm amazed by it.
