Variable weather

Variable weather is part of living near the mountains. Calgary is the type of place where it can be sunny in the morning and thunder storms by mid afternoon. 20C (68F) in the morning and -5C (23F) in the afternoon. Gloriously green in July....but also snowing.

We also have the wonderful 'chinook' winds - warm winds that can turn a cold day warm in a heartbeat (they also cause incredible migraines.)

I'm pretty sure that's why talking about the weather here is just part of the culture (a lot like the British).

Tourists hate rain

That said, for us rainy days are there to scare tourists, so that we have the mountains to ourselves. Those low lying clouds are like tasty cotton candy for your camera. And we get to bring out the red umbrella to give that pop of colour. And who am I to argue when the whole family wants to pose for the camera - even the dog. Kiku the fierce wanted to get in on the action.

I promise that if you come to Alberta now you'll have an incredible experience. You might not get the full blue of the lakes - but you will actually be able to get pick your spot for photography and not have a horde of tour buses interrupt the grandeur.
