Love this idea. I have worked in bio-energy industry for the past decade and the number of technologies which you see get funded (like electronic trees) when its always overlooked just to use the simple tools nature has given us and regrow some trees.
It does seem like an obvious solution. The more trees we plant the more coal humans will have in millions of years
Yes and we can grow biomass and convert it to charcoal and skip the millions of years .
