Day 2 Klipperrace 2018 Enkhuizen

On the 2nd day we needed to sail the Olympic triangle and we did actually very well. In this sort of regatta a lot of hands are needed to compete at a high level. Luckily the Klipper Isis, the ship we were sailing on, was well equipped with good people and good sails :) This day was especially awesome for me since we sailed hard and I had the opportunity to take a lot of photos.

This is the Deinemeid from Leeuwarden, they were coming very close to use when we where about to turn around a buoy.

In the process of overtaking us they "lost" their half winder. Someone actually needed to climb into the mast to get this huge sail down.

Everyone from class B gets ready for their start.

The Deinemeid under full sail.

Chilling in the bow net while we were heading to the start.

We push out the jib boom at dead reach to gain maximum speed. On these sort of vessels you really need some man and female power to do so.

Our skipper Joost in action.

Head to head sailing. It is so lovely to see these ships go full throttle.

The Waterwolf did not as great as expected but it won this regatta quite a few times. It is one of the fastest ships around.

The ship in the foreground is actually run by the university of Groningen and they placed second overall - if I remember correctly. The ship in the background is the Morgana.

Do you want to see more photos from this event? If so - please comment down beelow.

Thank you for your time.

Howdy from Texas ricpicks! What an amazing post! I have never seen a post on Steemit with sail boats before so this is incredible. It looks like that would be so much fun! Is this just a part time gig for you and do you travel to different countries to race?

owdee ol buckaroo! glad you found this post and that you enjoyed it :) - thats why i am posting here, if people find my stuff they tend to really enjoy!

In general I dont do too much regattas, this year it were just 2 and I was invited since friends of mine were competing anyway. I sail though out the whole year and right now I am looking for yacht delivery's in europe... I want to stay on boats and not to much in towns :)

take a look here to read more about what I do exactly

howdy again ricpicks! amazing story, I'm following you now and I read your intro post. Good luck and I'll see you again!

Thank you janton 😊😊

Hi @ricpicks, I like sailing, and your post has made me remember old battles on ships overseas.

I fancinan your graphics, you went aboard a contestant boat or went just to take pictures ... because to do the work of the boat to navigate and take photos I find it impressive.

I can feel the human effort that the teams have to have, I would have liked to see a map of the route, will you have any?

thank you for sharing.

of course I would like to see more photos :)

greetings peace and freedom

Hey arrozy!

The Isis is a charter ship, this means that people can hire the boat to go sailing but the owner is a fanatic sailor so he compete in these sailing regattas. I for my self work in the summer time as Mate / Deckhand on these sort of vessels and was invited.

Since I work on these sort of boats I am pretty good at seeing what needs to happen when and where, so I do have the overview about the situations. Therefore was I shooting and helping the same time and I found that very enjoyable. In this sort of job it is mayor to see (have an overview) and act... If I see a photo I'll take it, If i see a situation where help is needed I help, If i see that things need to happen, I make them happen :)

you can see the route in the Klipperrace video here at the end. If you want to see a more elaborate route I can produce one for you, just let me know!

all the best, fair winds,
R.

Congratulations for your curie vote ^_^.

I like watching people sailing. I have never done it as I'm afraid of deep water and strong waves but I love seeing those ships on the sea. It looks like you had a lot of fun and some chilling in between.

We're planning to go this area with my husband for many years to observe the seals but we haven't managed yet. I would love to go next year.

Your photos are very nice. You had great weather! Must have been pleasant to spend some time on the sea during such a nice sunny day.

Congratulations on your curie vote! :)

Thank you for sharing!

Look at all those boats and the action! Man I so wanted to role play as a pirate and set sail like the world's seas were uncharted. This is on my bucket list and your competition looks thrilling.

it is my honor again!

what beautiful photos in the navigation of the Olympic triangle I like in how they put themselves in the bow without giving fear and that is to have much experience in navigation. It is good to feel the sea air a 100% pure air.

YAR! I been wakened from me sleep in Davey Jones' Locker by the likes o' @matkodurko!

Wow I race around the course on a boat but THAT is a ship! I bet a jib alone on that thing would cost as much as our boat.

I am going to petition to have a net like that strung on ours so I can chill and drink some beer in peace.

Definitely need more pics of those epic boats.

hey man, the jib, main, glüver(the very first sail) and besan(the last one on the 2nd mast) cost around 20k € - the flyer is not that expensive but the "black pete" (we did not use it in that race - it is a half winder) is around 5k (i will show it in another post) - i think the whole sail surface is about 300 m² :) - glad you like that post!
