Brantford Indian Residential School
This historic building with gorgeous 19th century architecture, remains as a symbol of Canada's dark past. The Indian residential school system.
This is a sign in front of the building, giving a brief explanation by the government.
That is the governments "nice" way of stating that they had removed Indian children from their parents, to live in these schools (there where many of them across the country). The purpose was to strip them of their culture and indoctrinate them into christian culture.
There are many claims of physical, mental and sexual abuse in these schools and many of the children died in them.
Which made looking at the names and messages carved into the bricks of the building quite sad to check out. They are done by survivors and families of the children.
