Balinese doors have highly elaborate designs and decorations... such as this particular one
Most carry detailed designs, usually of flowers, leaves and tendrils, figures and characters from various stories and tales, such as the Ramayana... like this!
Highly elaborate carved wood and the stone of the central structure play off each other very well
Some doors just have one colour, like gold, a popular choice... but the details are always exquisite!
That full-blown design is placed in a setting no less elaborate
With guardians on either side... it can be a little unnerving to walk through such an entrance
However, most of these are decorative and used only during special occasions
There are usually less imposing entrances for the general visitor
The doorway or entrance above is actually part of the 'paduraksa' or 'kori agung', a gateway with a towering roof or crown to it all!
Definitely an imposing and impressive entrance when viewed in its entirety!

Wonderful pictures, friend @ ackhoo. I feel impressed by so much beauty and so much symbolism. The guardians of the threshold are easily recognizable, the stories of the eternal confrontation between heroes and demons that so abound in Eastern traditions and that, in a different way, also exist in our own traditions. But I do not want to bore you with my symbolism games. The photographs are a gift to the eyes. At least for mine, and I can assure you, that I appreciate them in all their value. Happy weekend.
