World Ocean's Day, the annual global event aimed at tackling some of the biggest threats facing our oceans, will take place on June 8, 2018. This year's theme is 'Our Oceans, Our Future' and the main focus will be educating the public about the devastating impact of plastic pollution as well as working to clean the ocean of litter wherever possible.

Getting involved is easy. There are hundreds of events taking place all over the world - just pick your favourite and get stuck in! Here's our pick of some of the most exciting events taking place on World Ocean's Day:

Americas

US Virgin Islands: Coralpalooza - head to the St. Croix East End Marine Park for a fascinating evening of lectures and discussions about the world's incredible coral reefs on June 8. There will also be a reef restoration day for divers and snorkelers at the Sweet Bottom Dive Centre on June 9. Find out more here.
United States: NOAA Open House - the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington will be opening its doors to the public on June 9 with a series of free talks, panels, exhibits and tours about the vital works it is doing to protect the oceans. Find out more here.
United States: Capitol Hill Ocean Week - presented by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, CHOW will bring together leaders and global stakeholders to discuss a wide range of ocean conservation issues. There will also be an Ocean Awards Gala honouring champions of marine stewardship with tickets available for the public to buy. Find our more here.
United States: World Oceans Day Family Festival - head to the Mote Aquarium in Sarasota, Florida on June 2 for a day-long family friendly festival exploring our deep connection to the seas. Expect a variety of free activities, talks and fun educational games. Find out more here.
Brazil: Clean The Ocean - join local Scouts groups at Beira Mar for a day of beach cleaning and education on how plastic pollution is affecting our oceans. Find out more here.
Galapagos: Charles Darwin Research Station exhibition opening - the Van Straelen Interpretation Centre at the Charles Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz island in the Galapagos will celebrate World Oceans Day 2018 with a new exhibition showcasing art created using marine rubbish collected during a series of recent beach cleans. Austria: The Last Whale - ahead of the first Children's Clean Ocean Summit on June 22, the United Nations will be displaying the Last Whale, a sculpture built by children using ocean plastic rubbish. UK: Ocean Talks - held at the Royal Geographic Society in London, Ocean Talks will bring together some of the world's leading environmental activists and marine experts to discuss the issue of plastic pollution and uncover solutions to some of the biggest problems facing the world's oceans. Mallorca: Sunset beach clean - join the Asociación Ondine with your friends and family at Mallorca's Portas Vells for a sunset beach clean followed by a moonlit swim. Find out more here.
UK: March for the Ocean - show support with your feet and join the London brand of the worldwide March for the Ocean events in Westminster to show your support for coastal protection and healthy oceans and protest offshore oil drilling and plastic pollution. Find out more here.
Ireland: Seafest - taking place from June 29 - July 1 in Galway, Seafest is one of Ireland's largest summer festival and celebrates all things marine. The 2018 event will feature talks from Blue Planet cameraman Doug Allan, displays from world champion flyboarders, sustainable seafood cookery lessons, sailing workshops and plenty of educational workshops and activities. UK (and worldwide): Relais & Châteaux Sustainable Seafood Menus - created in partnership with Ethic Ocean, over 90 Relais & Châteaux restaurants will be offering special sustainable seafood menus to mark World Oceans Day. Sri Lanka: World Ocean Day Walk - head to Galle Face beach in Sri Lanka on June 8 to join the local community for a special World Ocean Day walk and beach clean up organised by the Marine Environment Protection Authority. Find out more here.

South Africa: Ocean Day United - arranged by Pure Apnea, a Cape Town-based freediving organisation, Ocean Day United will offer a weekend of beach cleans tidal pool snorkelling, fundraising for the Tidal Pool ocean conservation group, yoga, plastic art and educational workshops for young people. Australia: International Ocean Film Tour - head to the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney on June 7 for the fifth annual International Ocean Film Tour showcasing some of the most inspiring environmental documentaries, ocean adventures and water sports clips of the past year.
