Civilian War Memorial, Singapore - architecturalphotography
Today I post photo of Civilian War Memorial in Singapore. When I took the picture, I was just interested in the construction of straight lines.
I later found out that this is a memorial dedicated to civilians killed during the Japanese occupation of Singapore during the Second world war. The monument is located in the Civilian area of Central Singapore, near the city hall and in the immediate vicinity of Marina Bay. This is one of the most famous attractions of the country.
The monument represents four identical tapering columns of white color directed upwards, each 65 meters high, they symbolize unity of four communities of Singapore — Chinese, Malay, Indian and Euro-Asian. At the base of the columns, the phrase "memorial To the civilian victims of the Japanese occupation 1942-1945"is written in four languages — English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.
Because of the appearance the memorial received an unofficial nickname - "chopsticks"

Nice photos! Thanks for sharing something I've not heard of before. It's very dramatic. A British relative of mine died in a Japanese camp during the Singapore occupation. People's reaction to sculpture can be funny. There is a very complex installation at our local university that is called "The French Fries" by students.
