Baby Sea Turtles

in #photography4 years ago (edited)

Hi Everyone,
These are not the best photographs of my life, but they are special nonetheless. It was raining and I took a risk in taking out my camera. This was the first time I have ever seen baby Olive ridley sea turtles.
Because of the rain (and rain on the lens), I was not able to get many photographs (although I tried to take many). It was a very nail-biting experience. There were three of us gathered on the beach rooting for these little guys. I thought when they reached the water, that would be it, but alas, it took several attempts of getting into the water before the water finally swept them away. So the good news is, they both made it safely into the ocean!

Here are some interesting facts about these turtles:
-It takes about 45 days for the eggs to hatch.
-Turtles come to the beaches where they were born to lay their eggs.
-"The local hotel industry has been involved in sea turtle conservation and protection efforts for the last thirty-six years."
-"There are also a number of ecological groups that run turtle camps and nurseries in the greater Banderas Bay area, where you can help newborn turtles through the first steps of their lives. Among them are: Campamentos Tortugueros Puerto Vallarta, a 2 kilometer stretch of beach from Playa de Oro to Playa los Tules in the northern part of Puerto Vallarta; and, in the Riviera Nayarit, Grupo Ecologico de la Costa Verde's Marine Turtle Nursery, Platanitos Turtle Camp and Grupo Ecologico de Nayarit's Playa el Naranjo."
-"Before the development of programs such as these, only 40% of the eggs that were laid along the shores of Banderas Bay survived, but today, thanks to programs such as these, almost 96% of the eggs deposited are incubated successfully."

Resilient and determined.

I think I would have been heartbroken if they had not made it, honestly because of how very determined they were and how hard they worked to get to the ocean. I wish them long and happy lives. :))

Have a wonderful day!

That are very cute pictures, it is nice to see how the little despite of their young age so have already their instinct :)

Thanks! It really amazed me that they just know what to do. I was so glad they made it!
