Temple of Concordia

in #photography5 years ago

Recently I've been in Sicily and obviously I took some pictures.

During the first day of this trip I went in the archrological area of Agrigento,
mistakenly called "Valle dei Templi", in fact the main buildings were built on a hill and not inside a valley...

In these picturs you can see the Temple of Concordia, one of the best preserved temples of Greek antiquity.

As the guide told us the building was built around the second half of the fifth century BC. In the late sixth century AD the temple was then converted into a Christian church and dedicated to the Apostles Peter and Paul.
At this point there was this duality of the pagan demons and its dedication to two Christian saints so the theory is that the temple was originally devoted to two Greek gods Castor and Pollux. Very interesting!

I recommend a trip in this area, it's beautiful and full of an ancient history!
