Le CAPTEUR DE RÊVES est nommé «asubakatchin» ou «bawajige nagwaagan» dans leur langue.
Ce bel objet est composé « d’un cerveau » (en bois de saule habituellement) et d'un réseau de fils en forme de filet.
Les plumes représentent l’amour, la douceur et la beauté.
Des petits objets précieux (petites pierres ou autres) peuvent être également insérés à travers le filet du CAPTEUR DE RÊVES.
La croyance populaire affirme que le CAPTEUR DE RÊVES protège la personne qui le possède contre les mauvais rêves qui pourraient survenir durant son sommeil.
Selon celle-ci, il agit comme un filet qui attrape les songes envoyés par les esprits, récupérant uniquement «les belles images de la nuit et brûlant les mauvaises visions aux premières lueurs du jour ».
