A White Cliffs Sunset

Sunset Over The White Cliffs of Sussex

You've probably heard of the white cliffs of Dover, as in they'll be blue birds over, but in reality much of the south east coast of England has white cliffs.

They are white because they are formed primarily of chalk although they contain a fair amount of flint as well.

It is not uncommon for houses near the cliff edge to fall into the sea due to erosion after a number of severe winter storms.

In fact, where this picture was taken 3 cottages have been lost over the years. It is now owned by the National Trust but they don't expect the buildings to last longer than another 6 years. Each time we visit we can see than creeping closer and closer to the edge of this very beach!
